POPSFinding the Shapes of Alternative Spatial Dimensions String theory proposes that particles, described in the Standard Model as point-like entities, are in fact more like vibrating strings of energy. The different frequencies at which they vibrate through the fabric of space-time gives them their unique physical properties. Gary Shiu, professor from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, proposes a model in which the shape of the extra spacial dimensions determines the properties of the universe, much in the same way the shape of a musical instrument determines its sound, meaning that string theory predicts that the particle masses and the forces exerted in the universe are in direct relation to the vibrating frequency of the string which, in turn, is given by the shape of the spatial dimensions.

POPSScience Never Stops :-) This is an entertaining and fairly level headed “what the future will bring” piece. It covers the promise and perils of a pretty diverse set of topics: nuclear power, space travel, power transmission, aviation, food production, urban growth, race relations and even (sort-of) outsourcing.

POPSThe sound of space: Scientists reveal 'music' made by stars "The star pulsations were about 25 per cent weaker than predicted, suggesting scientists may need to refine their theories of stellar evolution. A number of scientists are working out what the sounds from stars tell us about processes occurring inside stars"'It's not easy, 'It's like listening to the sound of a musical instrument and then trying to reconstruct the shape of the instrument'.

POPSMusical training enhances integration of the senses This study shows that sensorimotor and auditory training induces cortical reorganization to a greater extent than does auditory training alone. It also shows that sensorimotor and auditory training cause more changes in the auditory cortex than auditory training alone. This phenomemon, called cross-modal plasticity, has been investigated only rarely. In 2003, the same group showed that professional trumput players have enhanced interactions between the auditory cortex and the regions of the somatosensory cortex devoted to the lip. The new study therefore provides another demonstration that the sensorimotor and auditory cortices are connected to each other.

POPS10 Commandments from The Rock Bible IX. “Singers who tell the audience to ‘Give it up for yourselves!’ should be attacked by hyenas.” X. “Never spend more time on your hair than you would eating a modest-sized meal.”

POPS'Pipe organ' plays above the Sun whenever we think that we had grasped 0.5% of the wonders of the world & beyond, with an amused smile, God introduces something more for us to search/research around...you could use the photo for your desktop in winter...

POPS Cool and strange musical instruments Quite a bizarre collection, especially the 'sea organ' at the end," air holes 'breathe in' the wind along the shore, and the pipes hidden deep underwater make lower sounds" - WOW!

POPSRock Hall will honor music innovator Les Paul In 1952, Gibson introduced the Les Paul model, which became the instrument of choice for musicians such as Duane Allman, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. "It's not just his innovation and his musical playing, but sort of the residual effects of that guitar," Stewart said. "It's become the beginning point for so many people in music, particularly rock music." Paul still performs weekly at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City. He was inducted into the early influence category of the Rock Hall in 1988. Paul is only the second living recipient of the annual American Music Masters award, which began in 1996 to pay tribute to artists who helped change American culture. Jerry Lee Lewis was the first living recipient in 2007. Past recipients include Woody Guthrie, Muddy Waters and Sam Cooke.
