POPSReligion is not the primary motivation of suicide bombers
Whether through sloppy thinking, laziness, or outright racism, Imperial powers love to dismiss local resistance to foreign domination as either "drug-crazed" or "religious fanatics", sometimes both. Because then you don't have to take a close look at their motivations and ask "Why are they pissed off enough to do something like this? Why specifically are they targeting us ? What would I have to be put through to feel like a suicide bombing was a reasonable thing to do? "Oh wait, they're just a bunch of religious nutbags? Great, now we can unleash death an destruction on them and their society knowing that they're unreasoning fanatics, and not people with a legitimate beef. "Nice to know we're still the good guys who never start a fight but always finish it. We're kind of attached to that myth, and it would cause a lot of national distress and heartache if we had to question the reality of that. "Good thing they're just religious crazies."

POPSSmartRemarks: "Buttocks or Bullets?" In 2004 six men were arrested for stripping down to their thongs and mooning President Bush, mirroring the infamous Abu Ghraib human pyramid photo. They were cuffed and arrested. And the right wing was OUTRAGED and the disrespect shown to the president. What are we to make of the armed "patriots" showing up to town halls where the President is speaking, holding signs calling for the "Tree of Liberty" to be washing " with the blood of patriots and tyrants ? What message are they sending? One John Wilkes Boothe (Lincoln's assassin) and John Hinckley (Reagan's would-be assassin) would understand loud & clear. The right wing loses an election, and out come the guns and threats and cries of "oppression!" This should be no surprise. They've been shooting and bombing abortion doctors for decades. I'm watching for shrines to St. Timothy of Oklahoma to show up.

POPSTexting While Driving (car crash reënactment) What it looks like before, during , and after a 3-car accident caused by someone texting while driving. No limbs get torn off, but there's plenty of realistic blood & broken glass. Anyone who gets into an automobile (let alone behind the wheel) should be required to watch this. Just because you're a safe driver doesn't mean there's not some dangerous moron driving the other car. Me? I don't own a car and take the less-driven streets on foot/bike. I don't generally trust you maniacs who drive cars. Not when you're behind the wheel of a 2000+ death machine & out in public. And yes, talking on the phone, even with a hands-free, is JUST AS BAD . It's about diverting your attention. "Oh, but I can multi-task". bullshit. I live in Oakland. I'm not worried about terrorism @ the port or getting shot in a bad neighborhood. But the car-drivers, they are the ones most likely to kill me if I'm not paying attention

POPSRachel Maddow guest Dr. Warren Hern discusses climate of political terror in the US Dr. Warren Hern is the head of the Boulder Abortion Clinic, and one of the last doctors in America who still performs late-term abortions . He's lived with death-threats & actual attempts on his life for decades. And the same violent rhetoric from the anti-abortion fringe that spawned a series of homegrown American terrorist snipers and bombers that have killed people and destroyed property is being turned on proponents of healthcare reform in America. Think about it.

POPSRachel Maddow - America's deeply disturbing racial and violent discourse
The anti-reform right is using the same violent rehetoric against those in favor of healthcare reform that the anti-abortion movement has embraced for years. And members of that movement have assassinated doctors who performed legal abortions. Think about it. Republicans: YOU LOST THE LAST ELECTION. Both houses of Congress AND the White House. We had an election and YOU LOST. And so y'all are resorting to threats, intimidation, and attempting to derail the discussion rather than participate in it. Inchoate rage at the idea of change doesn't make you right or justified. That John Wayne chaser, that's for you. Get a grip, people. You may not like it, but YOU LOST THE ELECTION. That's how it works. Our next election is just over a year away. America rebelled against England when George III* refused to give the colonists a say in their own government. Y'all were given a say. It's called the 2008 election. WHICH YOU LOST. So why all the violent, revolutionary rhetoric?

POPSLudicrous Diversion (7/7 London Bombing Documentary) The British authorities have, within my living memory, a history of fabricating evidence and falsely convicting people of bombings. See the Birmingham Six , the Guildford Four/Maguire Seven , Judith Ward , Danny McNamee . They also executed Jean Charles de Menezes on the street with a bullet to the head. Their record in regards to terrorism is not the shiniest.

POPSI WANT EVERYONE TO REMEMBER WHY THEY NEED US! Dear Osama Bin Laden: America has turned it's back on us Republicans since Bush 1.1's regime. Could you attack again and remind them why they need us. Absent an atmosphere of fear and suspicion, they don't seem to think much of us. Mr. Bin Laden, please attack. We miss being in power. Sincerely, Michael Scheuer

POPSAt least 100 people tortured TO DEATH by American forces Since WWII enemies on the battlefield have surrendered to American troops because they believed they would be treated humanely and not abused by the Americans in uniform. This was true as recently as Iraq 1.0. We used to be the good guys. Now? We're a nation of laws. We can't just sweep dozens of murders due to White House-approve torture and have any sort of moral legitimacy internationally beyond that of an armed thug. I think this country is better than that.

POPSBill Moyers: "Why aren't we talking about guns?" But please, there are already some 200 million, privately owned firearms in America. Every year there are 30,000 gun deaths and in some years more than 400,000 non-fatal, gun-related assaults. The next time someone wades through a pool of blood to sidle up and champion the preservation of firearms, can't we just say, no thanks ? Enough's enough. To quote Bill Hicks, There's no connection (and you'd be a fool & a communist to make one) between having a gun & shooting someone, and not having a gun & not shooting someone.

POPSNeo-Nazis are in the Army now
Army regulations prohibit soldiers from participating in racist groups, and recruiters are instructed to keep an eye out for suspicious tattoos. Before signing on the dotted line, enlistees are required to explain any tattoos. At a Tampa recruitment office, though, Fogarty sailed right through the signup process. "They just told me to write an explanation of each tattoo, and I made up some stuff, and that was that," he says. Soon he was posted to Fort Stewart in Georgia, where he became part of the 3rd Infantry Division. In 2003, Fogarty was sent to Iraq. For two years he served in the military police, escorting officers, including generals, around the hostile country. He says he was granted top-secret clearance and access to battle plans. Fogarty speaks with regret that he "never had any kill counts." But he says his time in Iraq increased his racist resolve. "I hate Arabs more than anybody, for the simple fact I've served over there and seen how they live," he tells me. "They'r

POPSThe unequal treatment of two religiously motivated crimes Bias in the media and our justice system is a slap in the face to anyone who respects freedom of the press, truth, and justice. It is a covert form of prejudice and propaganda. The disparate treatment of these two murder cases began right from the first media reports. Most major newswires and major newspapers focused heavily on Mr. Muhammad’s religion very early on. The Associated Press, New York Times and CNN are all ignoring Mr. Roeder’s Christian affiliation or the obvious role his extremist religious beliefs may have played in the killing of Dr. Tiller. This comes from a pro-Muslim news source, with the obvious bias towards Muslims, but it doesn’t lessen the fact that American media has not measured these two murderers by the same yardstick.

POPSCookies, not torture, did the trick We used chess, not waterboarding, on the Nazis. And honestly, there seem to be people out there who, even if they believed a cookie and a pat on the head worked, wouldn't support it. Because you "showing weakness" is bad. Being seen as strong is more important that actual results. It's also buying into the racist meme that "Those people only respect violence". Beware of all those in whom the urge to punish is strong. -Goethe

POPSFBI Agent: CIA Torture Actually Hindered Intel Gathering
Ali Soufan is the FBI agent who interrogated Abu Zubaydah. This is the "high-value prisoner" from who stopped cooperating after the CIA started torturing him.: "Within the first hour of interrogation," Soufan said, "we gained actionable intelligence." Soufan could not say what that information was because it remains classified. Zubaydah had been injured during his capture, and Soufan's team arranged for medical care and continued talking to the prisoner. Within the next few days, Soufan made one of the most significant intelligence breakthroughs of the so-called war on terror. He learned from Zubaydah that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was the mastermind behind the attacks on 9/11. Then, however, a CIA interrogation team from Washington led by a contractor arrived at the secret location. Zubaydah was stripped naked and the contractor began a series of coercive, abusive interrogations, based on Cold War-era communist techniques designed to elicit false confessions.

POPSFmr. CIA Agent Bob Baer: "Torture Doesn't Work" NOTE: The video I clipped has been taken down, but Baer's entire interview is available for free on the Real Time Podcast . ALSO: Working vid (for now) Torture has not saved American lives. Torture does generate useful information. And it is the tool of the kind of regimes we've been taught to hold in contempt.

POPSSmart Remarks: "It Doesn't Matter If Torture Works" Even if waterboarding and slamming people against the wall did generate "actionable interigence", even if it worked... So what? The productivity of torture is irrelevant. Because if we accept that utilitarian argument... Why should we stop at only "enhanced interrogation"? Why not cut off a few fingers? Why not stretch people on the rack? Bamboo slivers under the fingernails. The Iron Maiden. Put peoples heads in vises. Rape a few. Do it in groups, and make everyone watch, knowing what order they're going in. If they produce "actionable intelligence", why wouldn't you? If the ends justify the means, once you go down that road... what reason would there be to stop? Not that it actually did stop any attacks against the US. But for the sake of argument...

POPSEver notice that Bin Laden's FBI wanted poster makes no mention of 9/11? More: Who is it that is controlling the media message, and how is it that the U.S. media has indicted Usama Bin Laden for the events of September 11, 2001, but the U.S. government has not? How is it that the FBI has no “hard evidence” connecting Usama Bin Laden to the events of September 11, 2001, while the U.S. media has played the Bin Laden - 9/11 connection story for five years now as if it has conclusive evidence that Bin Laden is responsible for the collapse of the twin towers, the Pentagon attack, and the demise of United Flight 93? No hard evidence connecting Usama Bin Laden to 9/11… Think about it.

POPSLudicrous Diversion: 7/7 London Bombings Documentary In the most video-surveillance-saturated country on the planet, why have we still not seen any videos of the bombers in action? Nothing? Isn't it strange that London officials were running terrorism drills depicting fictional bombings on the underground at the precise time & place actual bombings occurred ? The British police have a long, well documented history of forcing confessions and tampering with evidence when it comes to bombing convictions. The Birmingham 6. The Guildford 4. The McGuire 7.

POPSDanish Scientist discusses discovering nano-thermite @ WTC on Danish TV “I think there is only one conspiracy theory worth mentioning, the one involving 19 hijackers. I think viewers should ask themselves what evidence they have seen to support the official conspiracy theory. If anyone has seen evidence, I would like to hear about it. No-one has been formally charged. No-one is ‘wanted’. Our work should lead to demands for a proper criminal investigation of the 9/11 terrorist attack. Because it never happened. We are still waiting for it. We hope our results will be used as technical evidence when that day comes. “

POPSTerrorism, schmerorrism. The REAL threats to your life “Microbial Agents” (read bugs like flu and pneumonia) will send 75,000 of us to meet the Reaper this year... the next greatest danger is “Toxic Agents” – asbestos in our ceiling, lead in our pipes, the stuff we spray on our lawns or pour down our clogged drains. Annual body count from these handy consumer products is around 55,000. After that, the most dangerous person in our lives is the one behind the wheel. About 42,000 of us will cash our chips in our rides this year. More than half will do so because we didn’t wear a seat belt... Over 16,000 Americans will be murdered this year, most often by a relative or friend... After that, it’s an overdose on “non-steroidal anti-inflammatories”, acetaminophen or aspirin. About 7,600 hundred a year...

POPSWould the US government fake a terrorist attack to start a war? One of the arguments against he 9/11 truth movement is that The US Government would NEVER do something as heinous as kill American citizens and blame it on someone else in order to start a war. America would never even consider such a thing because it goes against who we are as a nation . ORLY?

POPSCar accidents are a greater threat to Israelis than Hamas 3 years of automobile accidents killed more Israelis than 8 years of Palestinian terrorism from all factions , not just Hamas (the boogey-man-du-jour). And the IDF killed that many Gazans, mostly civilians, in 22 days. I'm not defending Hamas or terrorism, no matter who carries it out. I'm just pointing out the numbers people might not be aware of.

POPSIsraeli Professor Criticizes "Zionist Colonial Project"--Israel a "Rogue State" The war is part of an aim to establish "Greater Israel". Consider the author before closing your ears. He unmasks the real scheme behind the previous Israeli "withdrawal" from Gaza, up to the context of the present war, and rehearses the controversy of the creation of the state of Israel itself in a manner the media never does. This is largely the Palestinian view from a Jewish and Israeli writer, which the media never acknowledges, and therefore is blameless of the typical charges of "bigotry" or "anti-semitism" leveled at all such critics. His conclusion: ... it has become a rogue state with "an utterly unscrupulous set of leaders". A rogue state habitually violates international law, possesses weapons of mass destruction and practises terrorism. No Clipmark can do this article justice, it must read in its entirety at the source. Powerful! (Hat tip to TN for locating the the source).

POPSOil, Smoke & Mirrors, or "There Is No War On Terror" "I personally believe there is a deep relationship between the events of 9/11 and Peak Oil, but it's not something I can prove... It seems evident to me that 9/11 was, in effect, a kind of pretext for the US to expand its military hold on the two most important oil-producing regions on the planet ." — Richard Heinberg , author of Peak Everything: Waking Up to the Century of Declines , Sr. Fellow of the Post Carbon Institute US soldiers are in Iraq & Afghanistan, not because of terrorism, WMD, or spreading freedom. US Soldiers are there to use violence to control the oil and suppress any locals who aren't on board with the program. US soldiers are being used as pawns of an empire addicted to (and made possible by) oil. Anything else is smoke & mirrors.

POPSBlueprint for Truth: The Architecture of Destruction (2008 Research ed.) Trailer for the DVD laying out the research by Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth . It makes the argument that the scientific evidence, when look at openly and dispassionately, points to controlled demolition being the mechanism that caused the 3 towers in lower Manhattan to collapse on Sept 11th 2001. Updated for 2008 with the latest research.

POPSArchitects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth The official story of what happened in New York that day doesn't match up with the laws of physics. This site lays out the case, by professionals who study & teach this stuff for a living, that the three towers that collapsed that day were brought down by controlled demolition, given the evidence and the laws of physics. There's quite an extensive bit of evidence laid out. Take a look a for yourself and determine which answer it supports. Occam's Razor says that when there are competing explanations for a phenomenon of equal strength, the one making the fewest assumptions is more likely to be correct. Without assuming anything, look at the evidence and the arguments put forth. See what conclusion you come to. When you remove "Oh, that couldn't be..." from the discussion and just look at the evidence, one theory seems to make more sense.
