    Dispelling myths about meatless meals
    Spiritualmonkey
    by Spiritualmonkey  10-30-2009
The right-wing blowhards getting their knickers in a twist over this is so amusing. Because it's indoctrination to teach kids that anything but meat for lunch is a good thing. How dare they! Like kids experiencing foregoing meat one meal a week is some sort of communist plot to weaken our children and make them susceptible to socialized medicine and nuclear disarmament or something.

What's really in foods labeled "healthy"?
    Lexica

Rule of thumb: if it has an advertising campaign, be intelligently skeptical about it. For example, plain old yogurt is good for you. Sweetened, thickened, colored, flavored "Go-gurt" in a tube... not so much.

I used to work at an Arby's one summer. As I remember it, the beast-parts MSM was squirted into a rectangular plastic bag & frozen. The minimum-wage drones like me defrosted it the night before and the next day, we popped it in to ovens , then onto the slicer, ready for your sandwich. And it was "value priced" and very reminiscent of the roast beef experience.

April 15? Pay your dues, appreciate the benefits, and stop whining
    Lexica
    by Lexica  4-14-2009    8
It's time to start pushing back against the bogus "tax reform" arguments. If you live in society you benefit from society, and you should pay your dues. More: In hunting and foraging cultures, the proportional tax rate is so high, said Dr. Bowles, that “even the Swedes would be impressed.” Take the case of the Ache tribe of Paraguay. Hunters bring their bounty back to a common pot. “The majority of calories are redistributed,” he said. “It ends up being something like a 60 percent income tax.” Pastoral and herding societies tend to be less egalitarian than foraging cultures, and yet, here, too, taxing is often used to help rectify extreme inequities. When a rich cattle farmer dies among the Tandroy of southern Madagascar, Dr. Bowles said, “The rich person’s stock is killed and eaten by everyone,” often down to the last head of cattle. “That’s a 100 percent inheritance tax.”

This Is Why You're Fat (a food blog)

The Double Bacon Hamburger Fatty Melt looks delicious and I could probably go for 2.5 days after eating one before I ate anything else. And that's including some heavy-duty kettlebell swinging You KNOW there are American's out there, right now, having their second one of the week. Shoveling 10 lbs of food into your face does not count as exercise if you burn X calories but ingest 3X worth in the process.

    IMF warns of economic riots
    spirithiker
    by spirithiker  12-19-2008    3
Hopefully, this is nothing more than necessary contingency planning, but a separate recent article stated that the Department of Defense plans to deploy 20,000 troops nationwide to help state and local officials respond to ‘nuclear attacks’ and ‘emergencies’. I can’t help but think the emergencies referred to could be riots over our deflating economy. There have already been food riots in Haiti, Bangladesh, and Egypt (http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/04/14/world.food.crisis/) and the way our government uses our money to bailout the banking system without any oversight, and the numbers of jobless and homeless keep increasing, civil unrest is not farfetched. I only have my faith that Americans will not go to this extreme but my faith in Americans have been shattered before.

Fast Food: Another Name for "Corn"
    Spiritualmonkey
    by Spiritualmonkey  11-11-2008
CONT'D: "In cattle, eating corn increases flatulence emissions of methane — a potent greenhouse gas — and creates an intestinal environment rich in e. coli, a common cause of food poisoning. That necessitates mixing cow feed with antibiotics, in turn producing antibiotic-resistant disease strains. Many of those livestock end up in high-calorie, low-nutrition franchised fast foods, which have been repeatedly linked to obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Fast food's biggest selling point is its low price — and that, say industry critics, is largely possible because of corn's ubiquitous cheapness. " (Emph mine)

That diet soda is probably destroying your brain. If you don't want to get overweight, drink water and get more movement into your life. But please, STOP DRINKING THIS CANCEROUS CHEMICAL THAT THE CORPORATIONS MAKE SO MUCH MONEY OFF! And for HEAVEN'S SAKE, please don't give this stuff to your kids. That's borderline abuse.
