    Pro-Rape Republicans "embarassed" by Franken's anti-rape bill
    Spiritualmonkey
    by Spiritualmonkey  12-3-2009    5
So let's recap: -Franken proposes a bill amendment that says mercenary companies fighting our wars for us can't force their female employees into rigged arbitration (rather than civil court) when they get gang-raped by their co-workers. -The pro-rape Republicans vote against it. Okay, I'll give them that they were voting for their corporate masters, but their corporate masters are interested in sweeping employee-on-employee gangrape under the rug. -The pro-rape Republicans think Franken is rude and inappropriate for forcing them to show their true colors to the public. Why not stand up and defend your votes, Repiublicans? Ten of your party sided with Franken against letting corporations sweep rapes and assaults under the rug. I think a lot of people who dismiss Franken as a clown are going to come to understand that's he's actually a very smart, well-read policy wonk who is also funny.

Realists of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose by the moronic, Panglossian smile off the optimist's face, and the dour, everything-sucks, soul-sucking eyore-ism of the pessimists. I particularly like Ehrenreich's take on why the poor should feel guilty for their poverty. More Ayn Randian bullshit , and she's right to call it bullshit.

White America has never liked social insurance for people of color
    Spiritualmonkey
    by Spiritualmonkey  9-16-2009    3
More: Meanwhile, there has been a massive expansion in government-sponsored welfare going disproportionately to the white and affluent. What the political scientist Christopher Howard calls the hidden welfare state includes the tax-favored employer-provided health insurance that most working-age Americans depend on, as well as the home mortgage interest deduction and the childcare and child tax credits. Affluent and educated workers are more likely to work for employers who provide private health benefits than are low-skilled workers and employees of small businesses. Personal tax benefits like the home mortgage interest deduction are available only to the top half of households who pay federal income taxes, and are unavailable to lower-income workers who pay payroll taxes but no income taxes. In many cases, the benefits of this tax-credit welfare state increase with income.

Mixed signals, Senator? What about the outright lies & untruths you & Sarah et al have been peddling? Healthcare reform legislation as being proposed does not include 'death panels' to determine who gets care paid for and who doesn't. The corporate health insurance industry, they're the ones currently operating death panels right now . They're the one's the "town hollers" are fighting in favor of. STOP LYING, REPUBLICANS! Rachel Maddow: Public Option Dying Because of Democratic Political Collapse
    Spiritualmonkey
    by Spiritualmonkey  8-18-2009
Why the fuck can't Democrats stand up and Support the policies THAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE VOTED THEM IN ON? Obama campaigned on (among other things) the idea of a public option healthcare plan. The Democrats won, OVERWHELMINGLY. Senate, House, & The Big Desk. What is the problem? Why can't Democrats push an agenda when they get in power? I may not like their policies, but the Republicans pushed a MUCH MORE sweeping agenda with much less of a mandate. In addition to a public option in in healthcare, we need public funding of political campaigns so our leaders won't be sucking at (and legislating from) the corporate tit.

Without a public option, there is NO HEALTHCARE REFORM. This is why the deep-pockets of the insurance industry are fighting the public option tooth-&-nail. Let Congress know that you're one of the roughly 80% of Americans who actually do support the creation of a public option, and will consider it a FAILURE without one.

Watch The Good Doctor's segment. notice how, when offered a chance to sit down, 1-on-1 with their representative, THEY DECLINE. They want the public meeting where they can yell & instigate violence and get on the web. Notice the Republicans have nothing on offer whatsoever except STOP OBAMA! Why? Because if we actually DO get healthcare, the Republicans are dead in the water for a generation. This is why they're resorting to thug tactics. While the organizers are tapping into an authentic sense of frustration among some Americans, The Tea Party Patriots group is not grassroots. This is astroturf at it's most plastic and corporate. Freedomworks is Dick Armey, Republican heavy-hitter. And Freedomworks is behind all the teabagging and meeting disrupti

The Corporate "Death Panels" are already here, Sarah
    Spiritualmonkey
    by Spiritualmonkey  8-11-2009
Corporate bean-counters are already deciding if it's profitable to treat people, or just cut off their insurance & let them die. What's so great about for-profit insurance if this is already the result? More: That kind of utilitarian rationing, of course, is exactly what Palin and other opponents of the healthcare reform proposals pending before Congress say they want to protect the country from... the idea that the reform plans would encourage government-sponsored euthanasia is one of a handful of deliberate falsehoods being peddled by opponents of the legislation. But the idea that only if reform passes would the government start setting up rationing and interfering with care goes beyond just the bogus euthanasia claim. Click through to the article for examples of how corporate greed, right this very minute, is leading to sick people BEING DENIED CARE HERE IN AMERICA. PUBLIC-OPTION NOW!

"Every doctor I meet says he's underpaid. I've yet to meet a hospital executive who thinks he or she can operate on less. I have yet to meet a patient who is willing to sacrifice care. So we have this $2.2 trillion system, and I haven't met anybody in any of the stakeholders that's willing to take less. And until we're willing to have that conversation, we're just sort of nibbling around the edges." People who think that Americans don't wait on lines, don't get denied coverage after paying their premiums, don't get their coverage rescinded right when they're about to incur huge costs, don't go bankrupt from medical bills, don't DIE because some corporate bean-counter denied their claim... You're either unaware of the facts, or lying. We spend more than any other country on the planet for healthcare, and are ranked somewhere around 50th in health outcomes. That's an undisputed fact. Corporate healthcare is a failure. Social insurance I can't be any worse.

Blue Dog Dem: Healthcare CORPORATIONS more inportant than people
    Spiritualmonkey
    by Spiritualmonkey  7-29-2009    5
The Blue Dog Dems are nothing but corporate tools, bought & paid for . I'm so sick of the "rationed care" meme. We ration care in this country based on how much you can afford. For more and more Americans, that's ZERO. And in rationing care based on how much you can afford, we spend MORE MONEY and have WORSE HEALTH OUTCOMES that just about every other industrialized nation. The people who cry over the evils of "Socialized Medicine" have no problem with "Corporate Medicine". The same corporatist framework that gave us Enron, Worldcom, Tyco, and the others yet undiscovered, waiting to explode. These are the profit-driven "bureaucrats" that right now, at this moment, are looking for ways to deny paying for people's healthcare (even in the absence of fraud) because FINDING WAYS TO NOT PAY PEOPLE'S HEALTH BILLS IS MORE PROFITABLE THAN ACTUALLY PAYING THEM!

The minimum-wage drones like me defrosted it the night before and the next day, we popped it in to ovens , then onto the slicer, ready for your sandwich. And it was "value priced" and very reminiscent of the roast beef experience.

The Republicans preached "deregulation & free markets" like the good corporate shills they are. We let the corporations & the investor class dominate the economy, and they got rich, drove the fucking thing into the ground, set us up for the next great depression, then held out their hands for a taxpayer-funded bailout. I for one think that maybe letting the government dominate the economy for a while might not be all that bad. The government is us, the citizens. It's answerable to us. The corporations are answerable to their shareholders. Bring on the Socialized Medicine and lets put a spear through the heart of the GOP once & for all . ;-)
