POPSThree Things You Don't Know About AIDS in Africa I thought the two most interesting points were these: 1. If you have sex with an HIV+ person in Africa, you are more likely to contract the virus than you would with an HIV+ person in the developed world. Why? Because other STDs are rampant in Africa, and the resulting genital sores make transmission of the virus easier. 2. Safe sex hasn't caught on in Africa because poverty is so high, and consequently life expectancies are low. Essentially, the writer argues that if people don't have much of a life to look forward to, they will engage in riskier behaviors. Richer Africans, and Africans living in areas with higher life expectancies, are much more likely to adopt safe sex practices.

POPSKadra - The Somalian girl which fight the conservative assholes.
Kadra Yusuf - The only Somalian girl in Norway with guts tougher than her opposite gender. I will say; One of top ten world wide. Muslims, especially YOU Somalian khat chewing losers; Shame on you. In our part of the World, democracy, equal status between man and woman and freedom of speech are absolutes. So, if there's a problem for you Somalian Muslims - Well, go home then and leave us in peace. How can you stay a place where you can't accept girls (in general) wearing skirts (or whatever they want to wear), without being called a hooker, being raped or beaten. Why can't she care for a kiss whenever she want, either it's her boyfriend or girlfriend? Kadra once told one of the Norwegian Ministers on purpose for getting the Norwegian politics getting more adequate to the real world. She said; Somalian guys are lacy and troublemakers. Allah, social benefits, kath (drug), trouble and suppressing their women are their only interests. And what have happen? Nothing.

POPSAmerican Evangelicals Role In Uganda Effort To ‘Wipe Out’ Gays This barbaric legislation stifles free speech by threatening anyone who is accused of “promoting” homosexuality with five to seven year prison sentences. Snitching on gay friends and family members is strongly encouraged because “failure to disclose the ‘offence’ within 24 hours of knowledge makes somebody liable to a fine or imprisonment of up to three years.” Sadly, this witch-hunt has the blood stained fingerprints of leading American evangelicals. The Fellowship, (aka The Family) one of America’s most powerful and secretive fundamentalist organization’s, converted Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni (pictured top) to its anti-gay brand of Christianity, which is the “intellectual” impetus behind the anti-gay crackdown. The clandestine organization’s leader, Doug Coe, calls Museveni The Fellowship’s “key man” in Africa. Jeff Sharlet, author of “The Family”, writes of the African strongman’s conversion:

POPSElephant orphanage (profiled on 60 Minutes) This place was profiled on the episode of 60 Minutes that aired tonight. They bring in young elephants orphaned by poachers, socialize them, bring them up, and release them into the wild. An important job in East Africa, I guess.

POPSShooting 'canned' lions in South Africa I understand killing and eating. The mind that enjoys depriving another living creature of its life for 'pleasure' is utterly beyond me. I have nothing but contempt for these people. This isn't a sport in any sense of the word.

POPSBurkina Faso gov't closing arsenic poisoned wells :-( Those of us who have good drinking water take it for granted, while others have to choose between dying of thirst or arsenic poisoning. Sand filtration, if it works as well as Zougouri claims, sounds like a good alternative to closing the wells...a stop gap measure until new wells or technologies can be developed.

POPSWeb shopping: lifeline from exiles to family in Zimbabwe
"Apart from food and petrol, these websites offer generators to survive Harare’s 20-hour power cuts, satellite TV subscriptions, mobile phone time and even the chance to pay for medical check-ups." "Zimbabwe, under the rule of Robert Mugabe, now has the world’s lowest life expectancy, and people say they are living “an 001 type of life”, explaining: “0 breakfast, 0 lunch, 1 dinner.” Mukuru.com allows petrol to be ordered by text message, enabling the recipient to collect vouchers. Websites also offer generators to survive power outages, satellite TV subscriptions, mobile phone time, payments for medical check-ups, supplies of insulin for diabetics, and other medicines and medical procedures. Dr. Chireka: “The situation in Zimbabwe is critical,” he said. “If you go into hospital in Zimbabwe, it’s like going to a bring-a-bottle party: you have to bring your own medicine, your own drip, everything. Doctors are on strike. I have no doubt thousands of people are dying unnecessarily"
