POPSUbuntu, create something that is stylish and stunning he notion of a strong Linux-based competitor to Windows and, to a lesser extent, Apple’s Mac OS X has been an enduring dream of advocates of open-source software. They champion the idea that software that can be freely altered by the masses can prove cheaper and better than proprietary code produced by stodgy corporations. Try as they might, however, Linux zealots have failed in their quest to make Linux mainstream on desktop and notebook computers. The often quirky software remains in the realm of geeks, not grandmothers. With Ubuntu, the devotees believe, things might finally be different.

POPSBritish Library in London ONLINE! The Turning the Page site brings together digitized version of over a dozen sumptuous tomes for the web-browsing public and curious scholars. Visitors can page through the first atlas of Europe (compiled by none other than Mercator), view William Blake's famed notebook, and take in the genius of Mozart's Thematic Catalogue, complete with musical examples. POPSSewing a letter I love how she created the lined notebook paper. I think a letter sewn on anything would be a precious gift for someone. A pillow case to give them sweet dreams? Inside a shirt to wear close to the heart? A set of plain dinner napkins to tell guests how grateful you are for their friendship and fellowship? Okay, I'm going to learn embroidery this summer. I will!

POPSBaboon Metaphysics Under the right conditions, instinctive behavior would appear automatically, even if the animal had never before had the appropriate experience. When they act by instinct, then, animals are not behaving according to Lockean reason, carefully weighing the information acquired from experience. Instead, they are governed by “hereditary tendencies” acquired over generations.

POPSThe best dollar I had ever spent! I cannot describe the look on his face when I gave him just the three little things (that cost exactly $1.00) that I had gotten him. Then, without a stutter in the world, he loudly said, "Thank You so much" then just kept repeating thank you, thank you. He gave me a big hug before going off to class. I know I was teared up, just watching someone appreciate something that much. As he walked off, he was showing his new "stuff" to another of the kids walking to class. I have to say that I have never spent one dollar that would mean so much to me.
