Clipmarks named worthy replacement for Google Notebook
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  1-16-2009    14
Love the last sentence..."Where Clipmarks trumps Google Notebook is with its sharing, by letting you publish your clipping for the entire Clipmarks community to see and comment on." That's a tip of the hat to all you clippers out there!!! Oh, and if they think Clipmarks is a worthy replacement for Google Notebook, just wait until they get a load of what we've been working on - coming soon!

Very, very cool-looking web app from Zoho - kind of an online, Ajax-based version of Microsoft's OneNote. Unfortunately not open to the public yet. Looks really, really sweet, which is what i would expect based on Zoho's offerings to date.

he notion of a strong Linux-based competitor to Windows and, to a lesser extent, Apple’s Mac OS X has been an enduring dream of advocates of open-source software. They champion the idea that software that can be freely altered by the masses can prove cheaper and better than proprietary code produced by stodgy corporations. Try as they might, however, Linux zealots have failed in their quest to make Linux mainstream on desktop and notebook computers. The often quirky software remains in the realm of geeks, not grandmothers. With Ubuntu, the devotees believe, things might finally be different.

    British Library in London ONLINE!
    cniq_cniq
    by cniq_cniq  6-2-2007    8
"Not everyone has the ability to journey over to the British Library in London, but anyone with a good Internet connection can journey through the pages of this august institution's most prized volumes. The Turning the Page site brings together digitized version of over a dozen sumptuous tomes for the web-browsing public and curious scholars. Visitors can page through the first atlas of Europe (compiled by none other than Mercator), view William Blake's famed notebook, and take in the genius of Mozart's Thematic Catalogue, complete with musical examples. Additionally, visitors have the ability to take a look through newly added materials, such as a 15th century Lisbon Hebrew Bible and an Ethiopian bible from 1700. "

Earlier this month, a senior British counter-terrorism officer told a Muslim security group that police feared a rise in attacks by far-right groups. "We treat right wing extremism as seriously as any other form of violent extremism and will continue to investigate such activity with the same determination," John McDowall, head of London's Counter Terrorism Command, said.

I love how she created the lined notebook paper. I think a letter sewn on anything would be a precious gift for someone. A pillow case to give them sweet dreams? Inside a shirt to wear close to the heart? A set of plain dinner napkins to tell guests how grateful you are for their friendship and fellowship? Okay, I'm going to learn embroidery this summer. I will!

Under the right conditions, instinctive behavior would appear automatically, even if the animal had never before had the appropriate experience. When they act by instinct, then, animals are not behaving according to Lockean reason, carefully weighing the information acquired from experience. Instead, they are governed by “hereditary tendencies” acquired over generations.

The best dollar I had ever spent!
    mugofcoffee
    by mugofcoffee  11-6-2007    1
I cannot describe the look on his face when I gave him just the three little things (that cost exactly $1.00) that I had gotten him. Then, without a stutter in the world, he loudly said, "Thank You so much" then just kept repeating thank you, thank you. He gave me a big hug before going off to class. I know I was teared up, just watching someone appreciate something that much. As he walked off, he was showing his new "stuff" to another of the kids walking to class. I have to say that I have never spent one dollar that would mean so much to me.
