POPSPaul Craig Roberts: Obama and the fall into tyranny Obama is too smart not to know that US foreign policy has been shanghaied by the Lobby, not in order to protect innocent Israel but to enable Israel’s territorial expansion. Obama has dispelled hope on the economic front as well. Obama has appointed two leading apologists for jobs offshoring as his economic advisors -- Bill Clinton’s Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin and Rubin associate Jason Furman. These two are notorious for their justifications of policies that benefit Wall Street, CEOs, and large retailers at the expense of the economic well-being and careers of millions of Americans. As a result of offshoring, good jobs in America are disappearing. The Bureau of Labor Statistics job figures make it totally clear that the US economy has ceased creating net new middle class jobs in the private economy in the 21st century.

POPSJimmy Carter: Make peace with Iran Bush has not seriously tried; his policy a "serious mistake and terrible departure" from the actions of previous US presidents (not to engage with countries with which they differed.) POPSFighting Words: How to Humiliate -- and Convert -- a Right-Winger This article, written by John Dolan, appears to me like a pathetic display of misunderstood liberal attitudes, caused by fear of being left on the shelf. In case the US-American voters don't understand sober speech but only humiliating speech, one can write the U.S.'s democracy off as a dead loss.

POPSAbid Mustafa: "The West to the World: Accept Our Values or Die"
The West armed with its secular doctrine and materialistic world-view proceeded to exploit, plunder and colonize vast populations in order to control resources and maximize wealth. In pursuit of these newfound riches the West succeeded in destroying civilizations such as the Incas, American Indians, Aztecs, and Aborigines. Those who survived colonization were forcibly converted to Christianity, stripped of their heritage and sold into bondage to western companies. For the indigenous people of Africa, India, Asia, the Middle East and others, the promises of freedom quickly evaporated and were replaced by colonial rule. Resistance offered by the natives towards their colonial masters was met by brute force . When the West was not destroying the natives they were too busy annihilating each other in a desperate bid to cling on to their precious colonies. World Wars I and II are prime examples of the destructive nature of western values.

POPSHijab is a personal choice not state law in Turkey In the early eighties, Iran imposed the hijab on its female citizens, while Syria banned it from schools during the same period. Syria gradually came to terms with the hijab, as the number of Syrian women who chose to wear it increased drastically during the nineties. The hijab is enforced today in Iran and Saudi Arabia, and banned in Tunisia . France banned the hijab in 2004, and far right politicians and pundits are calling for similar bans in other European countries . The Turkish parliament passed a constitutional amendment that practically repealed early constitutional provisions that allowed the Turkish government to ban the hijab from government buildings, universities, and schools. Although the lifting of the ban is not in force yet, the confrontation over this issue with secularists who control the military and the courts has already started. Secularist Turks are up in arms, protesting the new amendment .

POPSCross-Border Chases From Iraq O.K., 2005 U.S. Document Says Wikileaks, a Web site that encourages posting of leaked materials, says its goal in disclosing secret documents is to reveal "unethical behavior" by governments and corporations. It has previously posted the United States military's manual for operating its prison in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba; a military assessment of a 2004 attack in Falluja; and lists of American military equipment in Iraq. The American military command in Baghdad on Sunday sharply criticized the group's decision to post the document.

POPSUri Avnery: How They Stole The Bomb From Us Präsident Bush ist in Schwierigkeiten; sein Fiasko in Afghanistan und im Irak geht weiter. POPSPeter Chamberlin: Judgment Day Further excerpts: The criminal producers of our horror movie/psy-war operation intend to establish a new world order based on the ashes of the old. Their utopian world will be a world without conscience or morality, as it will be built upon the deaths of billions, who will have been harvested in the final act of this terrible horror script. Their perfected world (based on death) of unlimited profit to a very limited elite will come into being when Bush gives the order for the attack upon Iran. The world has been transformed by Bush’s war strategy into a very unstable swirling cauldron of pent up fear and hatred. The decision that he has made to escalate the wars (when his version of diplomacy visibly fails), seeking vindication through the total destruction of all opposition, is a suicidal decision.

POPSConcentrating on Iran's nuclear plant By signing the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, opened for signature in 1968, 189 states committed themselves to non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, disarmament (!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and peaceful use of nuclear energy. There are contractual partners (e.g. the U.S.) that don't fulfill their commitments. Instead of contractually disarming their nuclear weapons, they develop new ones, modernize their arsenals, their launcher systems, missiles, airforce, and submarine boats, and thus they arouse greediness of other states. Why should we be active against Iran, not exactly knowing whether and to what extent it infringed the Non-Proliferation Treaty, while we keep mum about contractual partners who are defaulting. Question mark. Rasmus

POPSSeven Bad Assumptions We Make About Iran Continuation: 1. Iran is ripe for regime change. Not true. 2. Iran is irrational and cannot be deterred. Not true. 3. Iran is inherently anti-American. Not quite. 4. Enrichment equals a nuclear bomb. Not necessarily. 5. Iran seeks Israel's destruction. False. 6. The pressure on Iran is working. Questionable. 7. Stability in the Middle East can be achieved only through Iran's isolation. Quite the contrary. Iran poses a complicated challenge to America, but not an irresolvable one. Despite the tremendous distrust between the two countries, history shows that negotiations can work. In 2001 Tehran and Washington worked closely together to defeat the Taliban and install a new government in Afghanistan. Without Iranian help, the new Constitution of Afghanistan would not have been achieved, according to U.S. diplomats involved in the effort.

POPSJust East of Eden: Iran, images and reflections Continuation: Washington had total confidence in the Shah’s American-armed military forces that had made Iran the gendarme of the region. The Iranian Revolution was a severe blow to US power in the Middle East from which the world power has never recovered. The miscalculations, misjudgments and blindness to reality concerning Iran of 29 years ago have led the USA down erroneous paths ever since. In 1980 American-armed Iraq conveniently attacked Iran in chaos, while Washington turned up the heat and upped its own confusion by secretly selling more arms to Iran in order to pay for the dirty war against the new leftwing Sandinista government in Nicaragua. The Iran-Contras scandal. America arms both sides. Until Iraq launched its US-provided chemical warfare, killing thousands of Iranians.

POPSAmerica's Armageddonites Push for More War Continuation: These end-timers have great influence over the U.S. government's foreign policy. They are thick with the Republican leadership. At a recent conference in Washington, congressional leader Roy Blunt, for example, has said that their work is "part of God's plan." At the same meeting, where speakers promoted attacking Iran, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay glorified "end times." Indeed the Bush administration often consults with them on Mideast policies. The organizer of the conference, Rev. John Hagee, is often welcomed at the White House, although his ratings are among the lowest on integrity and transparency by Ministry Watch, which rates religious broadcasters. He raises millions of dollars from his campaign supporting Israeli settlements on the West Bank, including much for himself.

POPSUri Avnery: So What About Iran?
