POPSQuote: The Important Story About OpenSocial Was reading through the bullet list of this blog post and thought this one bullet point was rather well said. I think all of the social application vendors should make this their number one goal..

POPSCreative SE2300 Bluetooth Headphones These look promising. I've already seen them on eBay. I'm not familiar with Creative's headphone quality, but it seems to be the right price point for me. I still need to still need to do more researc o

POPSHappy Ice Cream = jinx Found this on a new Twitter friend's blog. My wife and I play the jinx game all the time. I'm forwarding this clip to her as I think she'll think the story is cute, because she's interested in Japanese culture as well.

POPSiPhone Doesn't Support A2DP I just learned what A2DP is, today. You see, I'm in the market for a new pair of headphones and thought I'd do some research. A2DP allows you to stream high quality stereo sound to bluetooth headphones. There are some nice A2DP-capable noise-canceling headphones out there, but, since the iPhone doesn't yet support A2DP, it looks like there's no point in me buying them. So I think I'm just gonna go with a regular pair of noise-canceling headphones for the time being. Once the iPhone supports A2DP, I'll consider selling my headphones or gifting them to family and then buy some nice A2DP noise-canceling headphones that also have a mic. :-)

POPSSQL Server 2005 List all IDENTITY columns When I upgraded one of my databases to MSSQL2K5 compatibility mode, I noticed that many of my insert statements on tables with identity columns started generating primary key violations. I realized that I needed to run DBCC CHECKIDENT on all of those tables to fix the problem. I found this script, which lists all of the tables, in a database, that have identity columns. Then a copy/paste and regex search/replace generated a script for me to run the DBCC CHECKIDENT for each table listed. After running the DBCC CHECKIDENT, the problem went away.

POPSiPhone stand I think I want this for my desk at the office. It would also come in handy in the bed, sitting on top of a laptop table.

POPSEnabling Linked Servers While the code didn't really help me, it alerted me to the fact that you can now set these values for each linked server that you create. So I modified the properties of the Linked Server I was trying to use and all went well.

POPSfunny conclusion to a great article So the article is really about Kory Mohr's vision of a city-wide free wi-fi service. It's a good read. I've bee following Kory on Twitter for a while and am hoping to meet him for lunch one day. After reading this article, I have better context concerning one of his passions. Very cool.

POPSBlack Man, White Music
It was Feb/Mar of 06. I was in the doctor office's waiting room with my brother. Our mother had gone back with the doctor to have some fluid drained from a something or other on her side. They wanted to do a biopsy to make sure it wasn't cancerous. While we were waiting, I picked up one of the Time magazines that was laying out. You know how it is at doctor's offices... As I was reading the magazine, I saw the article from which I'm clipping. I found it very interesting and rather timely, because I was feeling the exact same way about hip-hop at the time. It was a good read. There were a lot of things changing in my life around that time. I had just moved back home with my wife. I was beginning to explore different music genres myself. What the article did was validate for me that it was okay for me to "sell out", if you will, because the world was more rich than my previous experiences and others were living it. Over a year later, you should see my music library and Last.fm p

POPSWiimote and Mortal Kombat So I'm trying to build a case as to whether the Wii is a novelty or legitimate. With this little paragraph, I become suspicious that the Wiimote isn't all that it's cracked up to be. The good thing, though, is it sounds like there are classic control options that we can take advantage of once the novelty of the Wiimote wears off.

POPSCars Create Wireless Network This is an interesting concept. I don't quite understand how someone is going to send me a message about an icy patch in the road. This may take a while.

POPSDBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS I saw one of my colleagues using this procedure. I haven't used it myself, but I think I'm about to start experimenting with it. I think the part about executing a CHECKPOINT first makes sense.

POPSIndexes have their disadvantages I've seen a lot of people talk about the consumption of disk space with respect to indexes, but I don't remember seeing mention of how it could consume memory space. I believe that makes sense. And seeing how I'm fighting with memory right now, it makes me think twice about slapping yet another index on my tables.

POPSJoost at the Indy 500 Joost is a very new company. To see them at the Indy 500 in such prominent spots as on the new ethanol tanks and to be on a car is huge.

POPSIndyCar Series running all ethanol now? This is cool. I didn't know that. Is that kinda like powering your car with moonshine? Ah, the rednecks have influence after all. I wonder if Nascar has/will move over to ethanol-based fuel. I wonder how the pending oil crisis will change the racing cultures...
