Is this the America we want to be to the rest of the World?

    by NonStatQuo  12-8-2007
I have lived abroad for a very long time, and consider myself a global citizen, not just tied to one country. And having been born in the U.S.A. it makes me sad to see that people, my friends in other countries think that Americans are a violent lot. Can Americans not see why? Gun crime has spiraled out of control and it only takes living outside of the country to gain perspective. We should not be living in fear of each other. We should not have to have metal detectors in our schools. We should not have to accept that our society has changed this way. This boy should have been helped as all of them should have been helped BEFORE we get to this point. We need to look out for each other each day of our lives.

I was surfing around the pirate bay and came across this link. It outlines some of the boiling issues that have been going on for a long time in Burma before the monks brought it widespread attention this week. I think this photo shows a dead journalist who only had a camera. We must listen and act......help support people who are truly courageous.

No matter where, our dependence on oil still permeates everything. The monks won't be able to protest today because they are under house arrest.

So this guy needed his weapon for self protection? Wake Up America! Stop being so smug and acting like thi sisn't happening. Don't we care tht innocent Americans are being killed every day thanks to lax gun regulations endorsed by lobbyists who hold on to antiquated laws without considering the greater need to encouraging the development of a civilized society where guns are not necessary? Why can't America see that this problem, starting with Columbine (as a milestone in our consicousness of this issue, it started much further)is not getting better. It is getting worse.

When NRA and other groups stand up for their rights to bear arms * READ THIS PAGE ask yourself if it is really the answer to an improved society. This is what happens to people when we become lax in our duties to protect one another in ways other than arming ourselves. We can best protect ourselves and our future leaders by listening to each other, taking action when we see some one is troubled (cho was a troubled dude that everybody IGNORED from his fellow students to his supervisors, teachers and establishment. When people don't enforce flimsy gun laws we get this.... When we care MORE about owning an item of metal designed to send bullets into another's body with such force as to DESTROY them, we get this.... Sadness, loss of so much potential... Christians, who seem to be in the forfront of gun advocacy, ask yourselves, Did Jesus own a Glock? (*which when you read your history books, you will learn this is an antiquated stupid right not relevant to our modern

I can't think of anything to say in light of this weeks news, except I am beginning to lose hope that we will ever rescue humanity because the hate will become too entrenched.

Some people just don't get it. Mr. Phillip Van Cleave, thinks if the students had been packing heat then things would have been better? HOw can packing firearms make us safe? I do not understand how someone can think that more firearms is the answer.

I cannot believe the blatant stupidity of this article posted on the BBC.co.uk website. They show you a virtual fortress of "secuity" that would make bush, cheney and rumsfeld proud. But do they mention how to protect againtst the thing that actually killed the students? GUNS and madmen? you might not get rid of the madmen, but with Better Fcking gun laws you could curtail the rampant gun culture in this country. This makes me sick.

Ten Ways to Make Sure That Peace Stays Dead
    Kore7
    by Kore7  11-28-2006    14
Too many people on each side see the other as wholly culpable. Too many people on each side see themselves as wholly innocent, wholly victimized, ill-served by the well-meaning, abandoned by former allies, betrayed by the media, misunderstood by people who should know better, forgotten by the world. Too many people on each side see only the suffering that has been caused them. Too many people have learned to wall themselves off from the suffering that they have caused.
