POPSThe universal stories that haven't yet been heard from kids
Kids tell honest and important stories, yet they often go unheard. BYkids is a non-profit organization pairing American film masters like Albert Maysles and Ric Burns with young people (ages 8-21) from around the world to create short documentaries that will illuminate universal issues. These stories are rarely told in the mainstream media and BYkids' goal is to raise awareness, stimulate debate and inspire social change. ... Looking for universal stories that haven't yet been heard from kids... Each year, five of these stories will be chosen and assigned to the five Film Mentors, who will each spend one month with the young person making the film. UNICEF will help identify children around the world and provide logistics in each project country. Yearly, BYkids will package the five films for effective outreach and wide distribution...The Tribeca Film Festival will premiere the films and our distribution strategy targets an audience of at least two million.
