POPSMantle Helium-3 in Geothermal Power The geochemists examined the ratio of helium-4 (the garden-variety helium that lifts birthday balloons) and its rarefied cousin, helium-3. The earth's crust contain just one helium-3 atom for every 100 million atoms of helium-4. But helium-3 is a thousand times more common in the earth's mantle.

POPSWetland thrives beneath the Antarctic Ice This is actually an entire new world, possibly preserving ancient life. The complex system that has apparently existed unseen beneath the Antarctic ice sheet is another great example of truth being much more exciting than fiction.

POPSGlobal warming melting Arctic Ice: Manipulation of public perceptions the second was the Medieval Warm Period from 900 to 1200 AD, and most recently the warm period of the 1930s and 1940s, which we now know were warmer than the 1990s in North America despite what Al Gore says. As Marie Curie, a worthy winner of two Nobel Prizes in Chemistry and Physics said, “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood.” Full story in the: Canada Free Press

POPSPope Tells Pharmacists To Make Moral decisions And what is next? Could there be an objection to filling an antidepressant or pain medication? If pharmacists want to do these sort of things then there should be a huge sign at the pharmacy stating that and people should be able to choose to patronize it or not.

POPSNorth American Electricity Demand Continues To Outpace Resource Growth Where will the money for this multi-billion dollar investment come from? Electricity users, no doubt, who will also be burdened by the increasing price of fossil fuels. The smart thing to do is curb demand. Reduce the number of unessential electronic devices we use, turn off the broadband connection unless we are actively using it. Buy your own personal solar / wind generation systems, both to save outgoings and guarantee security of at least a basic electricity supply.

POPSGloble warming may make humidity worse Studies compared the projected effects of Natural conditions, and greenhouse gas separately. Models could not tally with records, and suggested either on it's own could not explain the rise. When the effects of global warming, and natural conditions were included in the same model, the results reflected actual readings. Models keep finding worse scenarios, and more details to include in models because they were not considered, until they were recognized by their effects. An example is the fact that the thaw of permafrost is compounded by the heat of greenhouse gas, but also the release of Carbon Dioxide that has been bound up for thousands of years, from the soil, and thawed organic matter. Like peat, while used for fuel can release great quantities of co2 when decomposing at temperatures rise way above freezing.
