EPILEPSY: 'a great deformity', grounds for divorce.
righthand
by righthand  5-6-2008    3
"The court further found that the husband was aware of his wife's condition, and the fact that she was treated for it, prior to the marriage, but since she demonstrated no symptoms, the seizure could be construed as a new medical condition. The court then relied on a halachic ruling, dating back several hundred years, deeming epilepsy a physical deformity that can be used as grounds for divorce." ... Ynet

Why Congress Didn't Bring The Troops Home
debbyski
by debbyski  1-27-2008    3
I think it would do us all a good service to try to understand why the Dems failed us in ending this horrible war, instead of finger pointing, name calling, and blaming. If we had a Republican Congress we'd be in war with Iran by now too. I think we should try to learn from this failure.

Everybody oohed and ahed over Google's new presentation offering, but then went right on using PowerPoint. Because that's what you use for presentations, everybody knows it. Google gets an 'A' for effort and for presenting alternatives, but as Microsoft is learning with Vista, the public seems rather reluctant to change the status quo. Unless it's for Apple products, that is.

Others sink happily back into it. #5 | The Slow-Motion Episcopal/Anglican Train Wreck The Episcopal Bishops’ meeting in New Orleans fails to stem the ongoing defection of conservatives over the church’s positions on gays, or the likelihood of a worldwide Anglican split over the same issue. #6 | Green Evangelicals Global warming, along with poverty and torture, have become hot issues to a maturing conservative Christian movement. #7 | The Roar of Atheist Books There may or may not be more atheists, but there are more atheist authors--and readers want to give them a hearing. #8 | Another Blow to a Megachurch A year after Ted Haggard resigned as pastor of Colorado’s New Life Church--having admitted to “immorality” involving a gay escort--a gunman kills two congregants in

"As disastrous as Iraq has been," says Mann, "an attack on Iran could engulf AmHe repeated his firm belief that the White House had to draw up a road map with real solutions to the division of Jerusalem and the problem of refugees, something with final borders. North American Electricity Demand Continues To Outpace Resource Growth
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  10-22-2007
Where will the money for this multi-billion dollar investment come from? Electricity users, no doubt, who will also be burdened by the increasing price of fossil fuels. The smart thing to do is curb demand. Reduce the number of unessential electronic devices we use, turn off the broadband connection unless we are actively using it. Buy your own personal solar / wind generation systems, both to save outgoings and guarantee security of at least a basic electricity supply.

The Lowest of the Low
zasel
by zasel  10-11-2007    31
Every time I believe the right-wing nutters have reached their bottom when it comes to smear tactics, I find myself being shocked back into reality. Now we have Rush Limbaugh, Michellle Malkin, Mark Styne and Senator Mitch McConnell attacking a 12-year-old boy whose family made use of the schip program to help pay for the medical needs he and his sister incurred in a serious automobile accident. They accuse this child of lying for political reasons. This is the same kind of thing Limbaugh and his cronies did to Michael J. Fox when he campaigned for stem cell research, when Limbaugh claimed Mr. Fox was faking his symptoms in order to gain sympathy. Do these people have no feelings whatsoever? To smear a sick child for their own even sicker political purposes is beneath contempt.

Globle warming may make humidity worse
pokkets
by pokkets  10-10-2007    3
Studies compared the projected effects of Natural conditions, and greenhouse gas separately. Models could not tally with records, and suggested either on it's own could not explain the rise. When the effects of global warming, and natural conditions were included in the same model, the results reflected actual readings. Models keep finding worse scenarios, and more details to include in models because they were not considered, until they were recognized by their effects. An example is the fact that the thaw of permafrost is compounded by the heat of greenhouse gas, but also the release of Carbon Dioxide that has been bound up for thousands of years, from the soil, and thawed organic matter. Like peat, while used for fuel can release great quantities of co2 when decomposing at temperatures rise way above freezing.

What a caricature they have become.

The problem is: how to protect switzerland or other countries form social and other abuse while not forgetting the human scale of this problen. Don't forget your hearts and think always what would you REALLY do in a foreigners situation... but ok, abuse MUST be fought as well. And there is a structural abuse or lack in the swiss social system. Low effective quality-coachimg costs far too much and lowers effectveness of social financial efforts. Too many persons are living out of a poor person's finanial support.

"SOA Watch is an independent organization that seeks to close the US Army School of the Americas, under whatever name it is called, through vigils and fasts, demonstrations and non-violent protest, as well as media and legislative work. The Pentagon has responded to the growing movement and Congress' near closure of the SOA with a PR campaign to give the SOA a new image. In an attempt to disassociate the school with its horrific past, the SOA was renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation in January of 2001."
