What a fabulous & concise commentary on religion. Be sure to read the whole post at http://tinyurl.com/n4wmcn. I was lucky to never really have been indoctrinated into religion, except as much as it’s simply ubiquitous in our culture. Even so, I went through my own awakening as a result of being in a relationship with someone who was involved in AA’s 12-step program. I also became involved in Al-Anon, and therefore started really thinking about the question of a higher power. I just could never resolve that satisfactorily, and I couldn’t get around it, so I left Al-Anon and continued my searching and analysis of religion in general. It’s become a subject I’m endlessly fascinated by, but purely from a psychological, sociological, and historical perspective. Basically, the more I find out about the major religions, the more horrified I am that people continue to propagate these archaic & delusional beliefs. It really encourages me to see that people can overcome this kind of

Apparently the so-called "war on Christmas" was invented by Christians, not secularists.

It's very interesting that they're stamping out Tibetan Buddism with American-style capitalism. Maybe we should attack the Iraqi insurgents with karaoke bars and Disney theme parks. P.S. Could I apply to be reincarnated in New Zealand?

Forum Post subject: Teacher: I was fired, said Bible isn't literal
    Monkfishy
    by Monkfishy  9-27-2007
This clip contains selected excerpts from one forum post on the article about the teacher fired over teaching that the bible isn't literal. Naturally, the forum about this article degenerated into an argument over Christianity and the bible. This one post pretty much sums up everything that is disturbing to me about this conversation. These seem to be the typical arguments that come up whenever any attempt is made to discuss the subject with hardcore Christian believers.

This is a very disturbing example of the trend of American institutions becoming more theocratic. It's also an example of how the fear of litigation is shaping public policy.
