POPSGood Bye To The Pay Phone I remember when they hiked the pay phone rate up to a quarter from a dime. I knew where there were still a few phones that still only charged a dime. This is the end of the thousands of pay phones we here in the U.S. have become accustomed to. AT&T assumes that "private carriers" will take up the slack .. but if a huge company like AT&T wants out, where does that leave a profit for the "no name" companies. Worse service, worse connections, and higher prices!? I think maybe I am living too long! I have seen way too much changing for the worse. Change for the better is fine, but who makes the decisions as to what is for the best!? The bottom line? Oh well ... so goes the way of the world!

POPSRussian Internet Advances Russia struggles again with bringing more modern services to those who want it. They are saying that "the decrease in the internet charges is to create favorable conditions for the electronic commerce development." Yes, it seems that 21st century business is depending on the internet and computers in general for business communication and applications. I personally was surprised to read of the charges for internet service in Russia being the same or comparable to American charges for service. Russia, in my lifetime, has been so closed and proprietary about their business, that it was a pleasure to read something about the costs of services for their people. Thanks again to epheme (new clipper as of yesterday) for introducing me to this source.
