About me
Where to start!? Widow. Mother. Grandmother. Only child. I believe there are no accidents. I believe everything happens for a reason ... even if that reason is not clearly apparent when the thing happens. I believe in "paying it forward". I believe in the "golden rule". I have had the best of times and the absolute worst of times in my life. I write poetry and I tell great stories ... most of them true and of my life.
Why I use Clipmarks
I am always here and there on the web. I have eclectic tastes in everything, and Clipmarks is a great place to satisfy the craving for the unusual and different in news and articles. I have never visited Clipmarks without leaving very glad I came!

It's good to know that even the ancients were aware of the benefits of conservation, and that history proves that failure to continue those practices contributed to their downfall.

The Information & Technology Singularity
Marcariel
by Marcariel  7-28-2009
I saw this author interviewed. There is so much information and technology, doubling exponentially at an increasingly faster rate, that in the very near future we will be unable to handle or keep up with it without AI. The author says it best: "To express this another way, we won’t experience one hundred years of technological advance in the 21st century; we will witness on the order of 20,000 years of progress (again, when measured by the rate of progress in 2000), or about 1,000 times greater than what was achieved in the 20th century."

This page is the better alternative for that function with photos that are licensed (Creative Commons) for use.

This actually sounds like a great idea. I have kept a book with all my online ID's and Passwords. It really came in handy recently when a virus cleaned out all of my documents and photos folders on my computer. I had several of my ID's and Passwords in a folder .. fortunately not complete passwords. just hints I would know. My youngest daughter knows most of my ID's and passwords ... but not all of them. I think I'll look into one of these ... and the USB drive thing sounded like a good idea too.

Is It Wrong to Correct Someone's Grammar?
Marcariel
by Marcariel  3-7-2009    3
My kids and grands get so angry at me when I correct them ... but like the article says, "As standards decline, civilization declines." Maybe this makes me a stickler, or a prude ... but this is the way I operate. I can speak slang and I keep up with the meanings of all the new youth and tech lingo. That doesn't mean I have to say (this on top of my list of phrases that make me cringe), "I'm done!"

Nature Vs. Nurture Begins in Womb

I have seen this come true in y own children and grandchildren. I have a grandson who is extremely aggressive and combative, and his mother smoked during her pregnancy. My son, on the other hand, is just the opposite, and I have never smoked. I wonder if these results hold true for those of us that have had to suffer under second hand smoke most of our lives.
