POPSArtificial Life On The Horizon?! From the Wiki entry for "AI: Artificial Intelligence": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.I._(movie) "The story is set at an unspecified date in the future. Global warming has led to an ecological disaster resulting in a drastic reduction of the human population and rising sea levels. Cities like New York City and Venice lie in ruins. Mankind’s efforts to maintain civilization lead to the creation of android artificial intelligence." Strangely and powerfully prescient.

POPSTop 100 Speeches: ML King - "Beyond Vietnam" This speech belongs in the "KingZilla" category, and speaks directly to an article on MSNBC's website, "Tributes to MLK tend to ignore his complexity: Historians say King was far from revered as he pushed activism beyond race". http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22758159/ "He was considered by many to be a pariah. One more quote from the April 1967 speech: "Here is the true meaning and value of compassion and nonviolence, when it helps us to see the enemy's point of view, to hear his questions, to know his assessment of ourselves. For from his view we may indeed see the basic weaknesses of our own condition, and if we are mature, we may learn and grow and profit from the wisdom of the brothers who are called the opposition." And some wonder why he was killed...

POPSTon Cruise, Scientology and a Buck-wild Unauthorized Bio "the relentless expansion of the organization and its front groups has been made possible by the charm and persuasiveness of its poster boy, whose modernity, familiarity and friendliness mask the totalitarian zeal of his faith" Woah. Them's fighting words. 15 min. interview w/ the author, Andrew Morton, here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/22664012#22664012

POPSAddiction Vaccines: Just Say No Obviously, this won't be limited to cocaine, and soon, options to vaccinate at birth or early childhood will be offered to "concerned" parents. This is a very bad road to travel.

POPSMiss France 2008 Busted For Photos In the original photo of Begue licking the yogurt off of a hitching post (?), the can containing the yogurt is not cropped out. ;)) Can't figure out why the woman got banned. Then again, I'm not sure why she won the title in the first place. Sure, she's cute, but... http://video.aol.com/video-detail/miss-france-2008-nue--les-photos-dentrevue/1382659236

POPSGoogle News: "Comments From People In The News" This has the potential to be an extraordinary journalistic feature, since both professionals and non-pros alike may well tend to be more candid in this forum. Example: comments by Lisa Hartmeyer, RN who was quoted in an article on the problems nurses and other health professionals face from chronic chemical exposure. http://news.google.com/news?btcid=e5d01cc566cff5c4 Her Google followup is much more revealing of her true fears than her remarks in the original article. I'm eager to see how this feature develops.

POPSThe "I Am Legend" Quandry: Answered Just about every review I've seen for this movie riffs on how the first two-thirds of the flick rocks in a very quiet way, and the last third goes south. Why? The dog dies before the last third starts. Case closed.
