POPSThe way it's going to be on clipmarks.com I've done a lot of talking and writing lately about the type of environment we're trying to create here on clipmarks. I hope/think that i've been very clear. I know i've given it a great deal of thought. Please click through to the source and read the entire blog post to know where i stand. I want to be 100% clear. I am going to begin disabling accounts of users who i feel consistently violate the spirit of what this is all about.

POPSThings Americans don't like to talk about Read the whole article, it is illuminating to say the least. I thought this passage said it best: " If you listen to a lot of conservatives, they'll tell you that the difference between them and us is that conservatives love America and liberals hate America.... They don't get it. We love America just as much as they do. But in a different Way. You see, they love America the way a 4-year-old loves her Mommy. Liberals love America like grown-ups. To a 4-year-old, everything Mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes Mommy is bad. Grown-up love means actually understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad, and helping your loved one grow. Love takes attention and work and is the best thing in the world."

POPSMan Made Life Whoa. The implications from this will be enormous. If this project succeeds expect a concerted campaign of denial and attack from the religious conservatives.

POPSChristian Zionism: A story everyone should know RABBI MICHAEL LERNER: Well-- I'm hoping we have a few more years here. And I think in the 21st Century the growing wisdom of the American people and of all people is that our well being depends on the well being of everyone else on the planet, and I think that the Israeli population increasingly are coming to understand that their well being depends on the well being of Palestinians and of the Arab world. That there's that fundamental interdependence.

POPSThe student asked why Bush wasn't IMPEACHED, for that he was TASERED I can hear the conservatives yelling all over the blogesphere, THE NUT DESERVED WHAT HE GOT... I wonder what they would be yelling if it had happened to one of them or someone they loved. I watched the tape of the young student more times than I could stand to watch and still I could not see a reason for such a harsh punishment. Some believe we are becoming a police state with all the tasering going on by those who are suppose to protect us. I say, we're not becoming a police state ... WE ARE A POLICE STATE. I hope the American Civil Liberties Union, will get involved in this case it is just so outrageous. No one will want to allow their son or daughter to attend anything political... A closing of the minds of the young who are attending college so their minds can be opened, will be the result. It was a chilling event!

POPSWhy hate Gore? Granted, giving Gore the Nobel Prize may well be a political stunt somewhat out of proportion with the relevance of his actions. On the other hand humorless extreme conservatives have even more distorted notion of Gore. Their obsessive hatred of him is even more surreal than the hype. Why do they care so much about him? Why froth at the mouth over just one politician? Klugman provides some interesting answers, but also seems a little to simplistic. I have long been puzzeled on the vhemence with which conservatives react against environmentalism, and I don't think its as simple as pure greed.

POPS How modern evangelicals are ignoring their own history Today's Christian conservatives often note that Jefferson's famous line declaring that the first amendment had created “a wall separating church and state” was not in the Constitution but in a private letter. But in that letter, Jefferson was responding to one sent to him by a group of Baptists in Danbury, Conn. We usually read Jefferson's side of that exchange. It's worth re-reading what the Danbury Baptists had to say because it reminds us that for the 18th-century evangelicals, the separation of church and state was not only required by the practicalities of their minority status, but was also demanded by God. “Religions is at all times and places a matter between God and individuals,” the Baptists wrote, warning that government “dare not assume the prerogatives of Jehova and make Laws to govern the Kingdom of Christ.” Government had no business meddling in the affairs of the soul, where there is only one Ruler.

POPSConservatives Are Such Jokers "Most conservatives are more careful than Mr. Kristol. They try to preserve the appearance that they really do care about those less fortunate than themselves. But the truth is that they aren’t bothered by the fact that almost nine million children in America lack health insurance. They don’t think it’s a problem."

POPSThe True Conservative True conservatives cherish the government our founders created, and want to make it better, not destroy it.

POPSQuestion Faith It's time for us to grow up as a culture and trash the inhibition of questioning religion. Why should this area of thought get a free pass? The only answer I can come up with is that it would not survive public doubt and criticism. As we've seen in the Bush administration, religious dogma does have consequences that can negatively affect millions of people. To allow these areas to go unquestioned is ridiculous.

POPS‘It’s just a goddamned piece of paper’ Put aside, for a moment, political affiliation or personal beliefs. It doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat, Republican or Independent. It doesn’t matter if you support the invasion or Iraq or not. Despite our differences, the Constitution has stood for two centuries as the defining document of our government, the final source to determine “in the end ” if something is legal or right. Every federal official - including the President - who takes an oath of office swears to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States.” WHAT IS GLARINGLY OBVIOUS IS THE OUR "LEADERS" DON'T BELIEVE IN THE CONSTITUTION

POPSPush-button suicide machine Technically, if a person pushes the button on his machine, and not someone else, it is - thus far - legal. But public prosecutors are already examining ways of opposing the machine.

POPS"Liberal" vs. "Conservative" And the last bit; The forces of greed and corruption have become very powerful in recent years. I can only encourage idealistic people to keep struggling, to fight the inertia, to continue working to make the world a better place.

POPSFred Thompson Shakes Up the GOP Primary So, from the conservatives I talk to, here and elsewhere, I get the impression that Fred Thompson would really energize the GOP. The Republicans aren't running as disciplined of a process as they usually do, so it seems this could shake up a rather sloppy field. Who do you think stands to lose the most from F. Thompson's candidacy? Who do you think stands to gain the most? (I see a boost for Tommy Thompson, riding a wave of twin Thompson confusion...)

POPSI Want My Country Back "I love America, and I can't stand quietly by while the land of peace and liberty is being destroyed. I love the America of the Constitution and limited government - not the America of the Patriot Act and the Orwellian Department of Homeland Security. I love the America that Washington and Jefferson said should be far removed from all the age-old quarrels of Europe and Asia, while trading benevolently with people all over the world - not the America that has troops in a hundred countries while our own government prohibits us from peaceful trading with dozens of countries."
