POPSA View of the "Future" from the Past An interesting read. Some predictions are close to the mark while others now seem ridiculous. Prediction #9: Photographs will be telegraphed from any distance. If there be a battle in China a hundred years hence snapshots of its most striking events will be published in the newspapers an hour later. Even to-day photographs are being telegraphed over short distances. Photographs will reproduce all of Nature’s colors. Prediction #16: There will be No C, X or Q in our every-day alphabet. They will be abandoned because unnecessary. Spelling by sound will have been adopted, first by the newspapers. English will be a language of condensed words expressing condensed ideas, and will be more extensively spoken than any other. Russian will rank second. Prediction #13: Strawberries as Large as Apples will be eaten by our great-great-grandchildren for their Christmas dinners a hundred years hence.

POPSThomas Metzinger Lecture at UC Berkeley Arguments against the canonical "first-person perspective" -- the mind as a "transient computational module." Task for the viewer: try to find out if Metzinger's de-construction method depends on the method deconstructed.

POPSU.N. Chief in Baghdad There is a video at the source but I couldn't clip it. This is definitely a good way of getting some perspective on the situation in Baghdad.

POPS'Lost', son of 'The Stand'? A nice loose interview with Stephen King and the creators of the 'Lost' tv series. I am reading 'The Stand' now (I should make it to Marathon soon!) and this article has brought me to think about giving 'Lost' another shot.

POPSThe True Mirror Inspired by wildcat's clip about elephants. All that has to be done is make one big enough for an elephant to look at!

POPSMagritte A couple of my favourite paintings, not the popular bowler hat stuff. There's a great virtual gallery of his work at http://www.magritte.be/

POPSAn 80s Cartoon Classic - Visionaries A gem of a cartoon from the late 80s that was overshadowed by the likes of Thundercats and Transformers. Only ran for one series but the crazy incantations the characters must recite each time they use their powers together with the action which, at times, is almost manic make for more than a mere nostalgic tv experience!
