    What Is A Tutulemma?
    Jorjor
    by Jorjor  12-20-2009    2
When I was a kid, I always wondered why there was a figure eight on all the globes in the classrooms (usually in the southern Pacific Ocean). None of the teachers knew. Now I do. Blessed Solstice to all.

    300-Year-Old Solar Eclipse
    Jorjor
    by Jorjor  1-28-2008
Courtesy of those great folks at APoD, the oldest known (European) depiction of a total solar eclipse. Earlier depictions may exist in Asian sources - Arab and Chinese astronomers, for instance, made accurate notes on the supernova of 1054, which formed what is now the Crab Nebula, aka M1 & NGC 1952. The Chinese also kept accurate records of sunspots and comets long before other parts of the world did.
