Jimmy Carter: Make peace with Iran
    masbury
    by masbury  5-27-2008    4
Bush has not seriously tried; his policy a "serious mistake and terrible departure" from the actions of previous US presidents (not to engage with countries with which they differed.) "The president of the administration in Washington is the first one to have ever done this"

    The Code of Hammurabi
    alanocu
    by alanocu  5-4-2008    9
Hammurabi (ruled ca. 1796 BC – 1750 BC) believed that he was chosen by the gods to deliver the law to his people. The Code of Hammurabi was one of several sets of laws in the Ancient Near East. Most of these codes come from similar cultures and racial groups in a relatively small geographical area, and they have passages which resemble each other. The earlier Code of Ur-Nammu (21st century BC), the Hittite laws (ca. 1300 BC), and Mosaic Law (traditionally ca. 1400 BC under Moses), all contain statutes that bear at least passing resemblance to those in the Code of Hammurabi and other codices from the same geographic area. The complete text of Hammurabi's Code of Laws. http://eawc.evansville.edu/anthology/hammurabi.htm. Quite shocking. The photographs were taken at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Invictus has a clip on Hammurabi: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/92611450-2366-40A4-8825-C9287250A843/

Fighting Words: How to Humiliate -- and Convert -- a Right-Winger
    Rasmus
    by Rasmus  3-25-2008    1
This article, written by John Dolan, appears to me like a pathetic display of misunderstood liberal attitudes, caused by fear of being left on the shelf. In case the US-American voters don't understand sober speech but only humiliating speech, one can write the U.S.'s democracy off as a dead loss.

Abid Mustafa: "The West to the World: Accept Our Values or Die"
    Rasmus
    by Rasmus  2-21-2008
The West armed with its secular doctrine and materialistic world-view proceeded to exploit, plunder and colonize vast populations in order to control resources and maximize wealth. In pursuit of these newfound riches the West succeeded in destroying civilizations such as the Incas, American Indians, Aztecs, and Aborigines. Those who survived colonization were forcibly converted to Christianity, stripped of their heritage and sold into bondage to western companies. For the indigenous people of Africa, India, Asia, the Middle East and others, the promises of freedom quickly evaporated and were replaced by colonial rule. Resistance offered by the natives towards their colonial masters was met by brute force . When the West was not destroying the natives they were too busy annihilating each other in a desperate bid to cling on to their precious colonies. World Wars I and II are prime examples of the destructive nature of western values.

Hijab is a personal choice not state law in Turkey
    Rasmus
    by Rasmus  2-16-2008
In the early eighties, Iran imposed the hijab on its female citizens, while Syria banned it from schools during the same period. Syria gradually came to terms with the hijab, as the number of Syrian women who chose to wear it increased drastically during the nineties. The hijab is enforced today in Iran and Saudi Arabia, and banned in Tunisia . France banned the hijab in 2004, and far right politicians and pundits are calling for similar bans in other European countries . The Turkish parliament passed a constitutional amendment that practically repealed early constitutional provisions that allowed the Turkish government to ban the hijab from government buildings, universities, and schools. Although the lifting of the ban is not in force yet, the confrontation over this issue with secularists who control the military and the courts has already started. Secularist Turks are up in arms, protesting the new amendment .

    Peter Chamberlin: Judgment Day
    Rasmus
    by Rasmus  12-8-2007
Further excerpts: The criminal producers of our horror movie/psy-war operation intend to establish a new world order based on the ashes of the old. Their utopian world will be a world without conscience or morality, as it will be built upon the deaths of billions, who will have been harvested in the final act of this terrible horror script. Their perfected world (based on death) of unlimited profit to a very limited elite will come into being when Bush gives the order for the attack upon Iran. The world has been transformed by Bush’s war strategy into a very unstable swirling cauldron of pent up fear and hatred. The decision that he has made to escalate the wars (when his version of diplomacy visibly fails), seeking vindication through the total destruction of all opposition, is a suicidal decision.

America's Armageddonites Push for More War
    Rasmus
    by Rasmus  11-3-2007    2
Continuation: These end-timers have great influence over the U.S. government's foreign policy. They are thick with the Republican leadership. At a recent conference in Washington, congressional leader Roy Blunt, for example, has said that their work is "part of God's plan." At the same meeting, where speakers promoted attacking Iran, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay glorified "end times." Indeed the Bush administration often consults with them on Mideast policies. The organizer of the conference, Rev. John Hagee, is often welcomed at the White House, although his ratings are among the lowest on integrity and transparency by Ministry Watch, which rates religious broadcasters. He raises millions of dollars from his campaign supporting Israeli settlements on the West Bank, including much for himself.

What Jewish organizations must do about Iran
    Johanna_G
    by Johanna_G  9-5-2007
Some plausible proposals; one seems bad to me: All Iranian cultural functions should be picketed.
