POPSA dash of lime -- a new twist that may cut CO2 levels back to pre-industrial levels Tim Kruger, a management consultant at London firm Corven is the brains behind the plan to resurrect the lime process. He argues that it could be made workable by locating it in regions that have a combination of low-cost 'stranded' energy considered too remote to be economically viable to exploit – like flared natural gas or solar energy in deserts – and that are rich in limestone, making it feasible for calcination to take place on site.

POPSFive Signs of Job Burnout These physical signs are common indicators of job stress, and demonstrate that this can turn into a physical problem. If you are experiencing these symptoms, it's time to make some changes. You can start by talking to your boss or someone in your human resources department about how you can confront the problem together by redefining deadlines, delegating or outsourcing a project or two. In her book "Stress Management for Busy People," Carol A. Turkington recommends taking these proactive steps: # Learn to say no. # Reevaluate your goals. # Reduce your commitments at work and at home. # Learn stress management skills. # Get plenty of rest and eat a healthy diet. Finally, give yourself a break. This means taking your vacation days, no matter how important you job is, and taking little breaks every day to re-group, re-energize and unwind. Remember, if you don't take care of yourself in the office, you work will suffer and your health may pay the price, too.

POPSClemens Messerschmid (2003): Palästinas Wasserressourcen und Israels Trennmauer Much to my regret, I did not find an English translation of the hydrogeologist Clemens Messerschmid's essay on the disastrous impacts the Israeli "security fence" makes on the Palestinian infrastructure, especially the water supply. It might be that Messerschmid's paper "TILL THE LAST DROP - The Palestinian Water Crisis in the West Bank, Hydrogeology and Hydropolitics of a Regional Conflict" is of correlative content. It is available at http://www.palestineacademy.org/wconf/ (see the abstracts on http://www.palestineacademy.org/wconf/Abstracts.pdf). Messerschmid is working in several international water projects in the West Bank, currently in the position of Research & Coordination Advisor to the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) for the Project "The Sustainable Management of the West Bank and Gaza Aquifers" (SUSMAQ) of University of Newcastle and PWA. POPSflying toilets i used to work in a health sector programme in kenya - flying toilets were a big issue on our agenda. it is good to see that this problem is now reaching a wider audience. this is just one of many problems faced by slum dwellers - but a far-reaching one encompassing economic, health and security issues we often take for granted.

POPSReindeer Herders It is a very "cool" (no pun intended) project! Polar View also has a great video at the site with images of Antarctica we don't often see. I really do love the work they are doing.

POPSWest Baghdad: Al Karkh Maternity Hospital To Open Doors
said Brig. Gen. Jeffery Dorko, Gulf Region Division commander. “Also, working with our Government of Iraq partners, we have constructed 113 of 132 new Primary Healthcare Centers that will treat 8,000 Iraqis each day. “The security situation has improved greatly,” said Atta. “It was very, very bad here for so long. So bad that I refused delivery of vital medical equipment until it was safe from those who would rob and steel from the hospital.” Dr. Atta was painfully aware of the poor security situation after one large delivery of expensive diagnostic equipment that included x-ray machines and other high-end medical equipment was hijacked. “We hope to open the hospital to inpatient care, surgeries and deliveries within two months,” said Dr. Emad Sabry, an anesthesiologist and one of Karkh’s ten senior physicians. “The hospital still needs additional equipment – all types, from beds to incubators and most importantly the pharmaceuticals."
