POPSKangaroos Shot To Make Way for Car Race!! It seems that our wildlife is held in lower regard than 4 wheels attached to a heap of metal. Shame on our government for allowing National Parks & Wildlife to kill our native animals.

POPSMother caned in Bangladesh for talking to Hindu man Women's rights groups say there has been a spike in the number of "fatwas" -- judgments in line with sharia law -- in rural areas. "In the last few months, we've seen villagers invoking sharia to mete out barbaric punishments to women," said lawyer Ali. "It's disturbing sign and a real concern. It shows some parts of the country are becoming more conservative," she said. Bangladesh has been ruled by female leaders for 16 of the last 19 years and prides itself for empowering women. But although women hold high government and private sector posts, a move last year to give equal property rights to women was scuttled by Islamist protests. The Awami League government has vowed to eradicate militancy from the country, hit by series of blasts by outlawed Islamic groups in 2005, and has warned of "zero tolerance" for harsh sharia punishments.

POPSDay of the lentil burghers: Ghent goes veggie to lose weight and save planet No beige food, limp lettuce or soggy tomato sandwiches in this Belgian town..just yummy vegetarian dishes served one day a week: "The city council says it is the first town in Europe and probably the western world to try to make the entire place vegetarian for a day every week. Tom Balthazar, the Labour party councillor pushing the scheme, said: "There's nothing compulsory. We just want to be a city that promotes sustainable and healthy living." Every restaurant in the city is to guarantee a vegetarian dish on the menu, with some going fully vegetarian every Thursday. From September, the city's schools are to make a meat-free meal the "default" option every Thursday, although parents can insist on meat for their children. At least one hospital wants to join in." It will be interesting to see the meat industry's response to its cut in profits. :-)
