People are cutting down rain forests to make grazing land for cattle, or to grow soya beans for cattle to eat. Now the numbers of methane emitting livestock are orders of magnitude greater than they were only 50 years ago.

Oil firms' profits keep dropping as recession shrinks demand for energy

What will happen if the price falls back to less than $50 a barrel? The key is that the oil price is really based on the most people can afford, not supply. If it doesn't pay to maintain supply because costs are higher than income generated, then supply will not be maintained.

    by JICWyllie  10-25-2009    2
Almuth Ernsting from Biofuelwatch said: "It's almost unbelievable that we're creating vast areas of monoculture, mile after mile, just to be cut down as fast as they grow, to be shipped thousands of miles to be burned just for people's electricity. It just doesn't make sense. What about all the habitat that gets destroyed along the way?" Arrrghhh!!!! Please pass on ... retweet ... whatever. Somewhere I line must be drawn. See how woodlands can support multiple livings, and how complex they really are... www.worldwidewood.wordpress.com.

There's not so much incentive to invest in exploration, lots of incentive to keep the price of existing supplies as high a possible. The key on price is not really supply, but must be based on what people can afford to pay.

Now it is the New Scientist saying that the best we can expect is a collapse of civilisation. This model assumes a 4 C increase. Today I clipped the latest predictions indicating a 6.3 C degree increase. See http://openintelligence.amplify.com/2009/10/05/new-analysis-brings-dire-forecast-of-63-degree-temperature-increase/.

This is an example of drawing inferences from self signifying data. The problem with this one is that we can never know if it is true, since we won't be here if it is. We will know if it is false, though.

What really drives the Green Revolution is profits for oil and chemical companies which is why it is so hard to stop. If cattle are fed on pasture, no money is need for buying, producing and transporting corn, it stays with the farmer.
