POPSAnother Power Grab? "Clinton, of the Internet Security Alliance, praised President Obama's May science policy review, which he said would take cybersecurity in the right direction by promoting incentives to get the private industry to improve its own security measures. But he faulted the Senate bill, which he said would centralize regulations for an industry that is too varied to fall under the control of a single set of rules without endangering the economy and security. "We think a lot of things need to be done to enhance cybersecurity," he told FOXNews.com, but this bill is "not something that we could support." " Here's my simple thought: At what point do we say 'stop'? At what point is the government taking things a step too far? When will Americans wake up?

POPSWhy is Islamic Rule Always So Brutal? Estemirova said two of the women were married, with two children each. Their husbands held large funerals and buried them in the family plot, which would not have happened if the women had disgraced their families, she said. Kadyrov's version also has been contradicted by federal prosecutors in Moscow, who have concluded relatives were not involved.... Kadyrov's office refused to comment on the investigators' conclusion. The Moscow newspaper Novaya Gazeta reported that some of the women worked in brothels frequented by Kadyrov's men. Many Chechens say they suspect the women were killed in a police operation. The truth of the killings may never be known, given how much Kadyrov is feared. Rights activists fear that Kadyrov's approval of honor killings may encourage men to carry them out. Honor killings are considered part of Chechen tradition. No records are kept, but human rights activists estimate dozens of women are killed every year.

POPSThe UN is Nuts The conference is a follow-up to the contentious 2001 conference in the South African city of Durban which was dominated by clashes over the Middle East and the legacy of slavery. The U.S. and Israel walked out midway through that eight-day meeting over a draft resolution that singled out Israel for criticism and likened Zionism -- the movement to establish and maintain a Jewish state -- to racism.

POPSHamas Wrong Again I thought they were supposed to take care of ALL Palestinians living in Gaza - not just those loyal to them. Didn't realize this was a dictatorship.

POPSAn Opinion I Agree With....The USA The internet needs to remain a place of open knowledge, free speech and uncensored information. Most of the world has some form of censorship imposed on it's citizens. In the US, the MSM feeds us what they think we 'need to know' (hence the over-coverage of Brittney and Lindsey) and puts their own spin on the important stories (such as Gitmo). The internet allows us to sort, digest, and learn and form our own opinions. If a body, like the UN, takes control of domain naming, etc... we may lose that ability. As a citizen of a free country, I'm not willing to give up my rights to appease countries that don't respect them.

POPSDoctors Demand Apology From Obama Of course, no one in the media is reporting this in favor focusing on the 'race issue'. The news conference on Wednesday night lasted an hour. Many things were said - but still no actual facts or figures. We still don't know what the "PLAN" looks like or will actually cost. We DO know that Obama has no problem speaking out of turn on topics he knows nothing about. Like the 'acted stupidly' comment, he misrepresented and maligned another group in America - Doctors. In truth, I don't mind him making ridiculous statements. They prove that he is ill-equipped to tackle these issues and uninformed about the facts. I'm tired of all the liberal cheer-leading... I want the truth. Is the health system in trouble? Yep. Is government run health care the answer? Let me introduce you to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. My answer is Nope.

POPSUnbelievable Cont'd... Williams' lawsuit seeks damages from Renelique, the clinic and its staff. It claims that clinic records were falsified to say only that Williams underwent an abortion. Williams filed the suit individually and "as personal representative of the estate of Shanice Denise Osbourne, deceased," the suit said. The medical board's action Friday came at the request of the Florida Department of Health, which filed an order in February 2007 seeking emergency restrictions on Renelique's license. Department documents list many of the same allegations as Williams' lawsuit. "Dr. Renelique's failure to practice medicine with that level of care, skill and treatment that is recognized as being acceptable, as well as his willingness to falsify medical records, poses a serious and immediate danger to the public," the health department said. Renelique did not respond to the health department or dispute the facts it alleged, department spokeswoman Eulinda Jackson said Friday.

POPS"Honor Killing?" No. No Honor Here
"His personal life kind of betrayed what he tried to portray publicly," Moskal said. On Feb. 12, Hassan went to a police station and told officers his wife was dead at the TV studio. "We found her laying in the hallway the offices were off of," Benz said. Aasiya Hassan's head was near her body. "I don't know if (the method of death) does mean anything," said the chief, who would not discuss what weapon may have been used. "We certainly want to investigate anything that has any kind of merit. It's not a normal thing you would see." Hassan was not represented by an attorney at an initial appearance on a charge of second-degree murder. Neither police nor the Erie County district attorney's office knew if he had hired a lawyer. I just do not feel it was an honor killing. I think it was domestic abuse that got out of control. Nancy Sanders, Former co-worker The New York president of the National Organization for Women, Marcia Pappas, condemned prosecutors for referring to

POPSVan Jones - Green Jobs 'Czar' - Communist I've been reading more and more about this guy...and he scares me. No matter what role he plays in our government, the fact is, he's not elected, hasn't been appointed and then confirmed by the Congress. He's just 'THERE'. He has the President's ear. Of course, I previously clipped a piece about Obama's membership in the New Party. So maybe not just his ear - but his heart?

POPSWho to Believe? You see the ads on TV, in the popular magazines. They describe 'Exactly' how you feel. The finally understand your pain! Now all you have to do is bring this information to your poor, uninformed doctor. He's been out of school for a long time and probably hasn't seen the ads on TV explaining that the perfect drug for you is just a scribbled prescription away. Your salvation is at hand! The only problem is, the drug company has an agenda. Profits. The drug may have side effects that are worse than your illness. It may not work for you at all. Your insurance (if you're lucky enough to have insurance) may not cover the cost. You may not even have the condition they describe so well. Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis of convenience: when all the other tests are negative, this is the diagnosis. But don't tell that to the drug companies...they have your best interests at heart...

POPSWTF???? Personally, I think the builders/owners can call it anything they like....but as a normal American, it will always be the 'Freedom Tower' to me. This Tower isn't about "one world"... it's a reaffirmation of our Freedom. What amazes me is that they would think the old name would be more palatable than Freedom Tower. It's like naming a child the same as one who died previously....ghoulish.

POPSPrejudice in any form is wrong... If this article is correct...and I haven't found any other clips about this yet...I say good for us. We're working very hard to end racism (not always succeeding, but trying) and bigotry in any form - race, religion, creed, ethnicity - is wrong.

POPSThings That Make You Say, 'HUH?" Every once in a while, I hear things on TV, deal with people at work, or even just while out and about, that make me say, 'HUH?'. I was raised when children were seen and not heard, spanking was discipline, grounding meant doing extra chores every waking moment, and 'chores' were done in order to 'earn' an allowance. As a teen, I was expected (even though I'm female) to give up my seat on the bus to an older person, to help people and be polite. I waited for traffic, not the other way around. I worked hard for my salary - I didn't wait for the government to take care of me. Some days, I wonder if I lived on a different planet...

POPSAnother Blast From the Past - March 2004 Just over 5 years ago, voters wanted smaller government and decreases in government spending. I'm not at all convinced that that has changed. "64% of Americans prefer smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes" Kinda opposite of what we're getting, huh?

POPSWhat's in Your Wallet? "The problem with dubbing a company "too big to fail" is that it becomes big to turn down when it asks for more. The usual incentives for managers to keep costs under control fade when an enterprise becomes a ward of the state. A focus on pleasing customers gives way to a focus on pleasing politicians in Washington. Poorly-managed businesses survive at taxpayer's expense, while their better-managed rivals struggle through a shrinking economy and worry about what happens now that regulators own their competitor. A new risk-taking incentive emerges: If you're going to fail, make sure you fail so magnificently, so stupendously, that you get bailed out too. Bankruptcy is an alternative to this bailout black hole. Contrary to popular belief, bankruptcy actually protects a company by placing creditors' claims on hold and allowing a firm to continue to operate."

POPSNot Surprised At All... And where Michigan goes, the nation will follow. If you doubt that statement, wait 2 years... that's the approximate lag time. The only way to stop this is to stop the idiots in Washington as well as the idiots at the state level.... both parties. In this country we can all vote. Shamefully, only a small portion of the population gets off their asses and votes. I firmly believe that if you don't vote, you can't bitch. I vote.

POPSFinally! Something I Can Support Obama On What better use for our National Guard then to Guard our NATION? This could stop not only the violence, but the illegal immigrations from Mexico, the drugs themselves and stop arms from leaking out. This is a WONDERFUL idea!

POPSUnemployment "Michigan has had the nation's highest jobless rate for much of the past three years" Workers and small business owners in Michigan have been suffering for at least 3 years but we were told that it wasn't 'that bad'. Then we were told it was Bush's fault. Right. A one state recession was Bush's fault. How about we start looking at the real culprit? Granholm: The woman who cut school spending, increased taxes on small business while giving huge tax breaks to companies that aren't even here anymore and increased our personal income taxes. On tonights news, she was there apologizing for the long waits, the phone tie ups and the computer crashes met by people trying to get their unemployment benefits. She has promised to hire more workers, increase the phone capacity and open another call center as well as increase the computer server capacity four fold. Seems the unemployment business is booming...

POPSThe Majority Spoke...And the Court Did It's Job Regardless of your position on same-sex marriage, the majority decides. In California, the voters decided that 'marriage' will remain traditional. The California Supreme Court, as is it's job, ruled dispassionately, relying on the constitution of the state instead of personal positions. But the main reason I clipped this article is because - regardless of my stance on the subject - I applaud the Court for doing the job it was hired to do: decide cases without prejudice. I hope Obama's new Supreme Court nominee is of the same ilk.

POPSOne Small County In Michigan Ilsadago1 wrote: "coffeesnob wrote:" "In the year 2000: 85,000 people died (alcohol related) 17,000 people died (ALL illicit drugs usage combined) What is not "realistic" about that? Numbers are numbers, dead people are dead people." It's not always about how many deaths there are. It's the crimes committed to get, make, distribute and buy the drugs. It's the children permanently made ill by inhaling the fumes produced by a meth lab. It's the cost of medical, dental, substance abuse and mental health care. It's about the loss of employment, inability to care for children financially, hunger, homelessness and lack of basic needs. It's the lengths people will go to to feed the habit - it's not about getting 'high', it's about not getting dope sick. They will do ANYTHING to not get 'sick'. Death is the least of the problems.

POPSThrifty, She Ain't More 'entitlement' than anything, I think. I understand the need for security, but a G5? Why is a high end mode of transportation necessary? For her or any other "public servant"? What ever happened to 'tightening the belt"? Sheesh!
