POPSPolice Atrocities Define The Bush Police State
"If you've ever publicly opposed Bush's war of naked aggression in Iraq, you can bet you're in NSA's database, called TALON. War protesters, naturally, were the first to wind up in Big Bro's TALON, or database. This practice most certainly goes far beyond Nixon's 'enemies list'. Bush's database, methods, scope and ruthlessness plops us in Orwellian territory." Well, it's too late now. I'm probably already screwed and plopped and TALON'ed and monitored... END THE OCCUPATIONS! ------------------------- talon: \ˈta-lən\ Middle English taloun heel, hind claw of a bird of prey , from Anglo-French talun, from Vulgar Latin *talon-, *talo, from Latin talus ankle, anklebone 1 a: the claw of an animal and especially of a bird of prey b: a finger or hand of a human being 2: a part or object shaped like or suggestive of a heel or claw: b: the shoulder of the bolt of a lock on which the key acts to shoot the bolt 3 a: cards laid aside in a pile in solitaire

POPSWhy This White Guy Was Not Arrested While Trying to Break Into a House Not His Own All was well ... My hope is that lots of white folks will finally get what our African-American brothers and sisters have been trying to get through our thick skulls for about half a century now. It's different being black. No matter whether we think we are racists. And anyway, no person of color believes any white person who says, "I'm not a racist." When we hunt for housing, real estate agents regard us more favorably. We don't get followed by store security. We get better deals from car salesmen, more generous treatment from juries, and -- despite myths of rampant affirmative action -- our kids rarely compete with equally qualified African-American kids because so many urban schools, where most black kids are educated, are flat-out disasters.

POPSEnglish Speaker Kicked Off Bus The driver, apparently alarmed by her "aggressive" Muslim passenger, called the cops, cleared the bus, and warned the bus behind her not to pick up any of her stranded passengers. Although he is investigating the incident, Michel Labrecque, the head of the Société de transport de Montréal, defended the driver's action because "French is the language of work" in Québec. Labrecque acknowledged that many bus drivers are bilingual, and that bilingual drivers tend to be placed on routes covering tourist areas and the English-speaking suburbs. But he also insisted that it would be against the law to require any of the drivers to actually speak English even if they can, "Ça, c'est interdite."

POPSI heard my albino daughter being hacked to death for her legs "Convictions have been few and far between, but earlier this month campaigners celebrated four men being sentenced to death for the murder of 50-year-old albino, Lyaku Willy. ‘ A terrible noise was coming from the children's room. I saw my daughter's legs were gone. I realized she was dead and I couldn't stop crying. ’ It was the first time sick body part traders had been brought to justice. As authorities step up their fight against the racket, even family members have been discovered striking deals for body parts belonging to their own children. Shockingly, cops investigating Eunice's death earlier this year believe it falls into this category. Sobbing, Mary says: "My husband was arrested. He was charged with our daughter's murder and remains in custody to this day." Unsurprisingly, Mary's other albino daughters are severely traumatized by their sister's killing, and live in fear that they'll be next."

POPSThe Scandal of Hunger in America
Tax dollars are wrongly spent on all level of government. For example, in Los Angeles, the lion share of the city budget is spent on the police department. State wide the amount of money spent on the prison system is astronomical. Instead of hiring more cops and incarcerating more people, it would be a wise and durable investment to invest in good and free public education. Federally, the waste of our tax dollars and resources is just as absurd. President Obama will try to justify his escalation of the war in Afghanistan. By sending more troops to Afghanistan, the astronomical defense budget will keep going up and is likely to reach 700 billion in 2010. 1 billion people suffer from chronic hunger. It is Thanksgiving, and while the executives of Goldman Sachs, which are getting ready to pay themselves 21 billion in bonuses, have too much to be thankful for, the 49 million Americans going hungry every day should be resentful of a system that has let them down.

POPSGirls On Our Streets "Solutions are complicated and involve broader efforts to overcome urban poverty, including improving schools and attempting to shore up the family structure. But a first step is to stop treating these teenagers as criminals and focusing instead on arresting the pimps and the customers — and the corrupt cops. “The problem isn’t the girls in the streets; it’s the men in the pews,” notes Stephanie Davis, who has worked with Mayor Shirley Franklin to help coordinate a campaign to get teenage prostitutes off the streets."

POPSPre-RNC raids: so who hates freedom now? Doesn't look like any evidence has been uncovered thus far of intent to commit anything beyond non-violent protests. Kind of an unnerving story if you ask me, but, hey, it's a post-9/11 world, and the cops are just trying to keep us all safe, right? (It's funny, when I was a kid growing up in the eighties, there used to be after-school specials about how this kind of thing happened in apartheid South Africa.)

POPSIf you are arrested, say NOTHING If you watch the show "Cops" you realize the vast majority of the perps are too stupid to follow this advice, and ultimately make their situation worse than it already is. Once you are read your Miranda Rights, SHUT THE HELL UP. Really, do yourself a favor and read this section of the website.

POPSTransparency means nothing without justice Cory Doctorow on cyber-liberties. it is probably one of the most pressing issues in today's world, our overall culture moves into a transparent society (see David Brin) and the only way we will survive it is if tranpartency indeed will be all-pervasive

POPSTexas cop uses Taser on 72-year-old great grandmother
Ooh, her use of profanity made him fear for his safety. What is this guy a freaking nancy-boy? I’ll bet he let a lot of drivers go by and chose her because she looked ‘safe’. Part of the responsibility for so many people basically blatantly ignoring speed limit signs falls on the cops themselves. They randomly enforce speed limits. I have witnessed speeders driving past police officers who do nothing. I have witnessed police officers driving over the speed limit and I can truthfully say there was no apparent reason for them to do so, because further down the road I would again see them driving along with the crowd. The lackadaisical enforcement gives drivers a false sense that they will not be ticketed and then along comes an officer who may have been bored or pushed by his municipality to raise money. They need to be serious about enforcement or continue to allow drivers to do whatever they please, just as they have for quite some time now.

POPSGuys, What wouldn't you HUMP? Bots A 33-year-old known only as Zoltan made news in Georgia by marrying the robot he built. Zoltan and his womandroid have a happy relationship, not only because she doesn't have voice capability, but also because she surprisingly has no presidential aspirations. Beer Bottles Straight from the fertile 'tard farm of Yahoo! Answers comes this provocative inquiry: "How do I get my penis out of a beer bottle?" Don't bother replying, folks—moments later, the questioner explained that he freed himself by cracking a hole in the base of the bottle and applying some ice before lubing it all up. Buddy, that's not what they mean by "Tap the Rockies." So, which is the more creative sex? Maybe the females can come up with better.

POPSGang Finds Suing New York Pays Better Than Crack The gang's leader, Anthony Lawrence, was shot multiple times in his apartment in August. The robbers weren't there to steal his crack profits; they were after the $17,000 settlement he'd received in his latest suit against the city.
