Heartland to pay up to $2.4 million to settle cardholder class action suit
HansWobbe
by HansWobbe  12-22-2009
It's quite likely that this type of "class" legal action will become increasingly necessary if political leaders and regulators continue to fail in protecting the public. This is particularly likely in America, given the more litigious nature of their culture and the many precedents of "jackpot justice".

It will be very interesting to see which of these approaches becomes the preferred option, and especially how popular "demand" affects "price". Given the increasing availability of "annotation" services that overlay web content and the increasing demands on personal time, it is easy to anticipate that "user generated" annotation content may well become the modern equivalent of the Reader's Digest "condensed" book.

... Join a Credit Union ...
HansWobbe
by HansWobbe  12-17-2009
My own relationship with Banks is complicated. (1) My impressions of Banks are clouded by my 46 year relationship with them. (2) Like most folks, I started out as a borrower, but now I'm a depositor. (3) Several of the "Big 5" are my Customers and one of these is even a "Client". (4) I've learned that Canadian Banks are very different than those in the United States. All of that being said, after meeting with my bankers this morning, I can't help but feel the best way to help them fight their own executive bureaucracies is to ... Join a credit union!

These small graphs provide a quick comparison of one economic metric. It will be interesting to compare the relative numbers for "online" and "offline" (traditional) shopping consumer and business spending (since historically consumer spending is 2/3rds of the relative economic activity).

HansWobbe

Like all "technology" uses, the Privacy issues stem from the equal potential for "acceptable" and "unacceptable" uses that have both beneficial and harmful consequences. Countless examples of "extreme" uses exist on both sides of these issues, with the result that the only certainty is that those most likely to engage most vocally in the debate(s) are those that will have the greatest vested (and generally "undisclosed") interests.

Quite a few of this articles points merit careful consideration by anyone interested in changing "corporate governance". after all, knowing what some of the issues and pressures are, makes it easier to anticipate what may happen. It also makes it easier to compare and contrast the approaches of different Boards (and their members).
