    America's Gods
    haraya
    by haraya  9-23-2006    3
The survey came up with other odd findings: most Americans believe in prophetic dreams, 4 in 10 believe in ancient advanced civilizations like Atlantis, 3/4 of Americans think their relatives will go to heaven, and only 2.2% identified with the term Evangelical even though 1 in 3 attend churches that theologians consider Evangelical. The real bottom line was that asking someone if he is Protestant, Catholic, or Jewish isn't likely to tell you much about what that person actually believes.

Clarke said the papers showed the government could not conceal anything and that people were not going to find "that elusive bit of evidence that proves we're being visited by aliens". I am not sure that we are, yet if we do, how would humanity describe itself best?

Worth a read. A lot about lobsters, so grab a snack first. And a coffee. Pretend you are eating dessert after a lobster main course. It is as close as you can go to affording it.:)

Not having the disposable income of a hip young columnist/yoga instructor but still accumulating crap--ill-fitting clothes given by well-meaning e-wives, odd freaky books, tapes and assorted junk sent by friends who haven't a clue to my spartan eclectic taste--it becomes necessary every once in a while to do "the material plane shuffle" and sell, give away or dispose of the odd small air conditioner used in Alaskan summer, the unused DVD/CD player and the books on foreign policy by Henry Kissinger. With any luck, I can trade for a nice over-sized silk Hawaiian Aloha shirt, the gaudier, the better. But I still don't even know what an iPod is and don't WANT to know. ENOUGH STUFF! How can one evolve with all that crap holding you down?

Cats are notoriously hard to train Soon you may be able to get your cat to do (in death) what he was too cool to do in life. So far only the sounds of breathing and purring, but can roll over and fetch be far behind?

    William Graham Sumner's Forgotten Classic
    merrie
    by merrie  3-5-2009    1
and that it may be impaired for major considerations." Too often today's leaders are quick to surrender liberties for mere trifles, and the population at large allows it to happen. It may seem odd that a man writing at the tail end of the 19th century should have anything to teach us as we sit here in the opening years of the 21st century. However, timeless insights like Sumner's never grow obsolete. Today our government continues to play judge and jury with the fruits of other men's labors and many people think nothing of it. The Forgotten Men are still forgotten. Capital is still underappreciated or else confused with things that are not capital, such as Greenspan's waterfalls of credit. William Graham Sumner's ideas remain relevant today — painfully so. "The problem with Socialism is the eventually you run out of other peoples money." --Margaret Thatcher "History is only a tiresome repetition of one story." –William Graham Sumner

God discovered via impulse art purchase
    Godfrey Daniel
    by Godfrey Daniel  6-27-2006
I wish I hadn't seen it. I wish I could have stopped looking at it, which led to me buying it. The painting had two words on it. Jai Baba! . When I got home I did a search and discovered someone who apparently claimed to be God. Here is a little ditty , horribly sung, by world renowned paedophile Pete Townshend, extolling his holiness. I may photo the painting and post it sometime.
