    Tribes Should Run Fort Humboldt
    GlennFrancoSimmons
    by GlennFrancoSimmons  8-11-2009
It's time to end using a death camp as a logging exhibit. Fort Humboldt's only relation to logging was use of the soldiers who "protected" peaceful Native Americans from the violent white "settlers" who stole their land that had vast tracks of ancient redwoods on them.

    Canoe Fire Whitewashing Unsavory
    GlennFrancoSimmons
    by GlennFrancoSimmons  8-3-2009
After my post critical of the Canoe Fire, prompted by my interviews of officials when I was an editor, the federal government REMOVED the PDF report on the fire but left up the HTML and then said its Web server was down, despite the HTML being available and all other PDFs on that server being available. If my criticisms are so wrong, why remove the document?

    Gov't Failure Kills Ancient Redwoods
    GlennFrancoSimmons
    by GlennFrancoSimmons  8-3-2009
Don't buy the government's lies about the fire being good for the redwoods. This was a high-intensity destructive fire, and although the forest will recover, it will be nearly 2,000 years before the trees are fully "replaced," assuming climate change and/or other factors, like more fires, do not destroy the rest of the redwoods.

Creamery Offers Best Oragnic Milk, Ice Cream
    GlennFrancoSimmons
    by GlennFrancoSimmons  3-17-2009
I have no financial or familial interest in Humboldt Creamery, but it offers the best in organic and non-organic milk and ice cream. If you travel to Humboldt County, be sure to visit the redwoods. Best times for that are spring, summer and fall. However, around June and July, it's often foggy around the coast, but check out Ferndale. If you do visit the redwoods, it often gets up to the 80s-100s in the summer, but it's beautiful.

Although this site is not one of the best I've seen, it has some interesting facets about Del Norte's redwoods, which are often forgotten because most people think of Humboldt County's Avenue of the Giants, yet in Del Norte, you will see what I believe are the biggest redwoods in volume and height.
