POPS2/09 Genocide Has No Statute of Limitations For a county that prides itself on championing so many "causes," there are few among its "enlightened beings" who realize even this basic detail. Such so-called "progressives" remain woefully and hypocritically indifferent. On the other side of the ideological spectrum are those who believe "it's time to move on." Their indifference is partly based upon a fear of losing land.

POPSTribes Should Run Fort Humboldt It's time to end using a death camp as a logging exhibit. Fort Humboldt's only relation to logging was use of the soldiers who "protected" peaceful Native Americans from the violent white "settlers" who stole their land that had vast tracks of ancient redwoods on them.

POPSEmerald Triangle Anything But 'Green' Humboldt County in California is one of the most-corrupt locales. Its county seat, Eureka, is the 71st most-violent city in the United States -- and its population is LESS than 30,000. It is the armpit of California, and I caution anyone who is thinking of moving there are staying overnight there: DO NOT DO IT. It is unsafe. The illicit trade of marijuana has a lot to do with this county's corruption.

POPSCreamery Offers Best Oragnic Milk, Ice Cream I have no financial or familial interest in Humboldt Creamery, but it offers the best in organic and non-organic milk and ice cream. If you travel to Humboldt County, be sure to visit the redwoods. Best times for that are spring, summer and fall. However, around June and July, it's often foggy around the coast, but check out Ferndale. If you do visit the redwoods, it often gets up to the 80s-100s in the summer, but it's beautiful.

POPSMichael Guerriero's Brilliantly Vivid Serigraphs Are Masterpieces To Be Treasured
Tonight's golden light-illuminated sky reminded me of Michael Guerriero's unequaled serigraphs. The strikingly beautiful pink hues cast against puffy white clouds amid a beautifully blue backdrop of increasing twilight served as a pleasant reminder of the first Michael Guerriero serigraph that captivated me in the early 1980s in the now-defunct Candystick Art Gallery in Ferndale. His words are a humble understatement, which is just another tribute to this gifted artist. For the record, one of my other two favorite artists is Larry Eifert, who used to live in Humboldt County. When he left Ferndale, it signaled the fact that Ferndale was beginning to lose its status as the creative haven of the North Coast. Now, I believe, Eureka has more art galleries than Ferndale. Although Ferndale's art galleries are a phantom of what they once were, and although I have walked out on several horrific plays the Ferndale Rep should have been too embarrassed to insult its rural (and th

POPSDel Norte County's Titans Although this site is not one of the best I've seen, it has some interesting facets about Del Norte's redwoods, which are often forgotten because most people think of Humboldt County's Avenue of the Giants, yet in Del Norte, you will see what I believe are the biggest redwoods in volume and height.
