POPSApples and Oranges Yes, as is casting a sighted actor to play a blind character; and casting a homosexual actor to play a heterosexual character. Did that successfully highlight the absurdity of Ms. Bove's comment? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the lovely and talented Marlee Matlin's work, and would hate for her to be overlooked for a role which she would be perfect for, but I think Ms. Bove goes too far. (I singled out Ms. Matlin because she's the only deaf actor I could come up with off the top of my head.)

POPSEndangered Cultures This is a really interesting video (that wouldn't clip). It compares the elimination of cultures to the elimination of species and tries to put it into context. It's a lot of info in a short time and touches on a lot of topics

POPSCitizen Ignorance It is vitally important that the people who make the decisions in this country are put there by people who understand how the institutions in our country work. How do we ensure that? Should everyone be required to take a citizenship test before being allowed to register to vote?

POPSGovernment Not Required I liked this story because it emphasized the people, whom the government is supposed to be for, taking care of themselves.

POPSResponsibility to Homeless Clipmarks lost my first comment attempt, and I don't have time to recreate it all, so exec summary for now. Writer of post uses this man to illicit pity and/or prompt action, but does not address the role of his own life-choices in his predicament. POPSProof of Miracle? I'm a little behind the times, as you can see by the date of this article. I thought it was interesting enough to share, though.
