POPSJFK On Church-State Separation - No Spin, No Doubt "Finally, I believe in an America where religious intolerance will someday end, where all men and all churches are treated as equals, where every man has the same right to attend or not to attend the church of his choice, where there is no Catholic vote, no anti-Catholic vote, no bloc voting of any kind, and where Catholics, Protestants, and Jews, at both the lay and the pastoral levels, will refrain from those attitudes of disdain and division which have so often marred their works in the past, and promote instead the American ideal of brotherhood." POPSGay? Who Cares? "For some of the pioneers from the edgy, embattled, ecstatic "good old days," this may be bittersweet. "But isn't that what everyone wanted 20 years ago?" Gates asks. "Just to be treated like everyone else?"

POPSFred Phelps, Westboro Baptist Get Slammed! It's about time this bastard got some comeuppance! Phelps takes homophobia to extremes. It's one thing to disapprove of or publicly denounce homosexuality, but Phelps and his family blame gays for everything from the decline of western civilization to yesterday's heartburn. I can think of no better example of religion perverted by hate. This is a real test in my belief in Voltaire’s quote, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”. At times like this, I prefer Tom Stoppard’s version: “I agree with everything you say, but I would attack to the death your right to say it.” In this case, it’s probably best to let Phelps et. al. continue to show the world what asses they are. I can’t imagine any reasonable person, left, right, conservative or liberal, agreeing with Westboro Baptist’s brand of venom. In case you're not familiar with the Phelps clan, check out some of the links in the clip.
