POPSMore Bad News For Splenda/Sucralose After some nasty experiences with sucralose/Splenda, including severe migraines and nausea, I have done my best to avoid it like the plague (I don't even gargle with it--Listerine lists it as an ingredient in their flavored mouthwashes). I don't even chew gum with sucralose. I don't feed it to my kids or my friends, either. The only "diet" or "fat-free" drink I offer in my home is bottled water. I avoid food that says "low fat" or "fat free" unless I can tell, by reading the ingredients that they do not include "sucralose" as an ingredient. I'm thinking about getting my hands on some leaves from a Stevia plant to grow my own non-fat sugar substitute, produced with love from Mother Nature.

POPSDuring Lean Times Parents Risk Dip In Popularity
Lavish parties for children are one of the many reasons so many kids are spoiled brats. They get everything they want without restraint while mom and dad go broke trying to give them everything to make up for having to work to pay for all the lavish crap little Tommy and Janey want. There is no need to spend exorbitant funds on food and party favors. Give the kids DIY activities and snacks, and some cheesy goodie bags and they'll have more fun than any lavish carnival or circus style party in the long run. For the record, that's a rule in good and lean times in our house, especially when we have two birthdays and Christmas that come within six weeks of each other. We can't spend lavishly when the holidays are also so close. Also, kids need to hear the word "no" every once in a while to really appreciate the power of "yes". If they always get, they will take everything for granted. And, we don't need to be raising anymore GWBs, if you know what I mean...

POPSGood News Clip: Beauty Queen Overcomes Sabotage She still won despite her clothing and make-up being tainted. There's an old saying, even I live by and that is, "the show must go on". It will be good news to hear that the bastards who did this to her are caught...

POPSTake Everything Good/Bad With A Grain of Salt This is one of the reasons I don't jump on health crazes, one day something everyone is touting as "great" turns out to not be so hot and another day something everyone is touting as "the worse thing evah" turns out to be not so bad. Of course, it doesn't hurt to find out more, get to know yourself, try it out, if you think it will help. But, there are people who get downright militant about these so-called cures/killers to the point where they lose friends or call those who disagree "haters". You never hear them come back and say "oops, my bad!". It's like that line from "I Heard It Through The Grapevine": "Believe only half of what you see, some and none of what you hear"...in other words, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. If people are touting it as evil, find out for yourself. Even if you see it with your own eyes, get a second opinion. Not everything good/bad for you, is.

POPSThe "Chicks" Rock The Grammy's I have been a fan of the Dixie Chicks since their hit "Wide Open Spaces". I did not drop my support when Maines put her foot in her mouth. When Clear Channel was promoting Chicks bashing, I still did not falter. When their new record came out, I was one of the first to buy it. I played "Not Ready To Make Nice" loud enough and long enough to possibly annoy my neighbors. In fact, it's my main ringtone on my phone. I am very proud of the Dixie Chicks, today. I think they are good musicians and I am proud that they continued to speak their mind when the rest of the Country community wanted to stone them. I don't need role-models in my old age, but I am proud of their example and I point to that when I talk to my kids about using their voice to speak up against those things that they are against, even when the world is against them.

POPSThe Party of Principle I clipped this because someone asked for more information. Full disclosure: I have been a member for 7 years and for two years I served as the media director of the LP in my county and two more years I served as the media director of the LP in my state (yes, 4 yrs total I served on the board of party directors on some level). I have also run for state office, two times on the LP ticket.

POPSThey Report. Who Decides?
Are you gonna believe your lyin' eyes? I live on a military post and work for soldiers and their spouses...haven't heard anyone yet say how they support the decider. I have seen a lot of families torn apart by the Iraq War (not just deaths--which I know people who have lost loved ones, but also a large number of divorces). I've seen a lot of soldiers and their wives crying and cussing about being redeployed. I've even been to one of the decider's press conferences...sat close enough to lob spitballs at 'im. No one I was sitting around was "cheering" then, either (maybe because attendance was "mandatory" for some of them and at least, historical, for most) and that was three years ago. I was only there because I was the Media Director for the Libertarian Party in CO at the time. My credentials as a military spouse was all the press pass that I needed). Soldiers are re-enlisting because most other good paying jobs went bye-bye. So you can't point to that to PROVE "accept
