POPSChildren Are To Be Seen And Not Heard: Airline Edition This is ridiculous. I hope the family sues and wins. Toddlers babble...that's how they learn to talk like "grown folks". I am getting so tired of hearing stories like this (sometime ago, another family got kicked off a flight because a toddler hit his mother while she was trying to calm him down while having a tantrum and the "attendant" had the child kicked off for assaulting "a passenger"--the aforementioned mother!). Adding insult to injury, note that both mentioned incidents happened after long ass delays of the flights. I realize that since 9/11 flight attendants think they are the guardians of the skies, but a lot of these incidents are leaning towards completely f*king stupid!

POPSThe "Chicks" Rock The Grammy's I have been a fan of the Dixie Chicks since their hit "Wide Open Spaces". I did not drop my support when Maines put her foot in her mouth. When Clear Channel was promoting Chicks bashing, I still did not falter. When their new record came out, I was one of the first to buy it. I played "Not Ready To Make Nice" loud enough and long enough to possibly annoy my neighbors. In fact, it's my main ringtone on my phone. I am very proud of the Dixie Chicks, today. I think they are good musicians and I am proud that they continued to speak their mind when the rest of the Country community wanted to stone them. I don't need role-models in my old age, but I am proud of their example and I point to that when I talk to my kids about using their voice to speak up against those things that they are against, even when the world is against them.

POPSHumorous Dissent I realize that the cameras are "serious business", but they are showing up everywhere. I admit that even I feel a little childish (the point, maybe?) around these things, even when I go up to my ATM (I always smile and stick out my tongue, on purpose). These guys take dissent to a whole 'nother level. At least the guys watching the cameras have something entertaining to look at.

POPSCompany Accused of Insulting Soldier Getting Threatening Calls The last bit of the article says quite a bit: 1) The troops have no choice where they serve, so this company's representative was completely wrong in his remarks in regard to Webster's inquiry. 2) Because it's a Muslim-owned business, it's only going to make sentiment towards Muslims worse. Many people know how I feel about the war in Iraq, but to stoop to rudeness, especially as a business person, is beyond the pale. A simple "no, we don't ship to APOs, sorry can't help you" would have sufficed. I don't even care who owns the business. This company was absolutely wrong in this instance. Regardless of where they stand on the war, I won't feel sorry for them if they go out of business because what they did was offensive, period.

POPSAnorexia: Whose Fault Is It? What do you think? I'm kind of on both sides of the argument, that it's a combination of nurture and nature. I was raised by a mother who was obsessed with her weight and who would regularly tell me I was fat and that was when I was pushing 120! I had boyfriends who considered me fat at 130. I toyed with binging and purging, but being a Type A personality, it made me feel out of control. I decided that I would have to find other ways to keep my weight down that didn't include doing anything gross to myself or causing myself pain (I had severe gall stones, but didn't know until years later). Now I am a healthy but plump 170 (I have three kids after all), and I actually get a lot of compliments on how I look. I find ways to enhance my assets and hide my flaws and complement those things I do like about myself. I do worry about my weight getting worse, so I maintain habits that control/lower my weight, but I don't starve myself.
