About me
37 year old, loud-mouthed (beep)...and proud of it. Wife of an Army soldier, Iraq War Vet (3rd tour begins Nov. 25th, 2007), proud homeschooling mum of three (18, 7, and 5). I'm a news and blog reading junkie and I have an opinion about just about everything. If you don't wanna know, it's probably not safe to ask me (wink).

I am working on a new project called "Ten Clips A Day" in an effort to post 10 daily clips to this site and make clipping a daily habit. It is an extension of another project I have going on at my own blog: dizzydayz.blogspot.com. It is merely a collection of 10 posts that I find in my rss reader when I oepn my browser every morning. Some clips will mean something, some clips will mean nothing, but most will probably be worth reading.

Please keep in mind that the articles and views clipped on this clipmarks page do not necessarily reflect my own.

Knowledge is power. Arm yourself.
Why I use Clipmarks
I use Clipmarks because it's a great way to get edible doses of news and other misc content, including ideas about politics, culture, humor, and other intellectual pursuits as provided by other Clippers on the site. I like to see what interests other people and I like interacting with people who find my clips interesting, even if they disagree with my own personal views.

Dog rescues owner that forgot keys
pokkets
by pokkets  11-24-2007    1
The dog Anna woke her owner up when there was a fire. They both got out, but the owner, a janitor, forgot her keys. She went back inside, and Anna followed her back, and led her out , leading her through the smoke. I've seen a few dogs rescuing owners stories over the past month, and there seems to have been one thing in common. The dogs had generally been stray, or adopted from the pound after being abused by previous owners. The dogs were proving they can be grateful, Perhaps seeing it as repaying in kind.

How the Neocon-Christian Right Alliance Brought Down the House of Bush
Rasmus

  C. UNGER: I traveled undercover with Tim LeHay, who is the prophet of the "Left Behind" series. I traveled with him to the battlefield of Armageddon, where they believe the final conflict would take place. Megiddo is -- from Megiddo, we get the term Armageddon, where the final conflict will take place. And I was walking up the hill with LeHay and about ninety of his followers, and as you look over this spectacularly beautiful pastoral valley . They see that it will be filled with blood, the blood of as many as two billion people. And I talked with them about that, and they say there will be a river of blood, 200 miles long, about four-and-a-half feet deep. And I asked one of them when all this would take place. And they said, “Very soon, but not soon enough. Any day now.” So they see this fantasy is taking place, and this is sort of one of the horrific visions that is spelled out in the Book of Revelation.

Immunize Your Children Or Go To Jail
thisnamecantbetaken

I am adamantly opposed to any sort of mandatory, forced or imposed vaccination programs. I do NOT trust the pharmaceutical companies. Last time I was vaccinated, I was deathly sick for three days and thought I was going to die! Despite this, blood tests showed that I still hadn't developed the necessary amount of antibodies for the vaccine to be effective and I was advised to have the vaccination again! Yeah right!! In your dreams Dr. Death! *LOL* One of my cats is also extremely sensitive to vaccinations and gets SO sick too. Vaccinations and medicine are NOT one size fits all. No-one should be forced to have anything injected into them or their children (or pets.) I'll take my chances against the bugs any day, rather than being bumped off by the vaccination itself! If this were imposed upon me or my kids (or pets), they would be home schooled instantly or we would leave the state. End of story. There's a little video at the site, but it wouldn't clip.

The Downside of Optimism

Democratic Sweep Would Bring Mammoth Tax Increases
merrie
by merrie  11-13-2007    6
All told, the Democratic platform could cost more than $700 billion over four years. I have a million ideas, Clinton tells the Boston Globe, and the country cant afford them all. On that point, even Clintons critics agree with her. It is pretty clear that more spending programs have been promised out of repealing the top Bush tax cuts than repeal would be able to fund, Nate Bailey of the Tax Foundation tells Newsmax. Its almost certain that funding all of these proposed programs would require massive tax hikes, the scale of which the U.S. has never seen. Sabato, author of A More Perfect Constitution: 23 Proposals to Revitalize Our Constitution, believes taxes will be a cornerstone of the coming Republican campaign.

More: When sugar water was substituted for the saccharin solution, the results were the same, researchers said. "Intense sweetness is more rewarding to the rats than cocaine," said coauthor Magalie Lenoir of the University of Bordeaux in France. Lenoir said mammalian taste receptors evolved in an environment that lacked sugar and so were not adapted to the high concentrations of sweets found in the modern diet. Excess sugar could increase levels of the brain chemical dopamine, she said, leading to a craving for sweets.

Whoa! I thought the US and our President Bush were persona non grata. Has something changed? Do the leaders of England, France, Germany know something that the average US citizen doesn't understand? Perhaps the world isn't the Land of Oz. Maybe our politicians have glossed over the threats that are mounting, maybe the leaders of the *free world* have had a wake-up call. Or maybe we've all just received incorrect intell; everything is ok and we can all go about our business...as usual. You decide.

"Personally I'm appalled by the practice," Herman said. "I don't think it's safe for the individual soldier. I don't think it's safe for his unit either to send someone who is so impaired back into a situation of danger."

Clip on the top link and you can see the entire Countdown episode on video. McCain is witness from personal experience that torture produces confessions, but not often the truth. The only convictions of any "terrorists" since 9/11 (the alleged Kahli Sheik Mohammed) was gained through "redacted" (edited) testimony after long periods of torture--not by any other evidence. (And for the record, the man in Guantanamo was not the mastermind of 9/11 and the government had no other evidence).

Anti-Choice Politicians Strike Again, Pleading the Father's Case
seaj11
by seaj11  9-24-2007    2
Absolutely ridiculous... Regarding the first point, I think it's overly simplistic to state that men are the breadwinners (which is becoming less and less true), therefore they should have a say. Besides, that argument works the other way too...if the father can't provide (which is often the case), he might push for an abortion. Secondly, the requirements of paternal consent and the police report just beg for trouble. Whether the woman is out of touch with the father, was abused by the father, or simply doesn't know who the father is, women's choice is stripped away by the sheer unworkability of the procedures required by law. As for the latter, it should be clear why that doesn't work.

Author of Long Running Series The Wheel Of Time Dies
kidora

I really liked this series despite its length and complexity. He is one of the few modern authors to capture the world of Tolkien with The Wheel of Time series. He is also the author of the Conan the Barbarian series, made popular by the actor (and governor) Arnold Schwarzenegger. I really hope that A Memory of Light is released despite his death. My sympathies go out to his family in their time of grief.
