POPSThe Mask Slips "Remember voodoo economics? That was the derisive term George H.W. Bush used for Ronald Reagan’s fantasy that he could simultaneously increase defense spending, cut taxes and balance the budget. After Reagan became president (with Mr. Bush as his vice president) the budget deficit — surprise, surprise — soared. Just as they were wrong about trickle down, conservative Republican politicians and their closest buddies in the commentariat have been wrong on one important national issue after another, from Social Security (conservatives opposed it from the start and have been trying to undermine it ever since) to Medicare (Ronald Reagan saw it as the first wave of socialism) to the environment, energy policy and global warming."

POPSThe Things Their Families Carried “Oftentimes you would see a family go up to the grave and they would just launch themselves onto the tombstone and start crying,” Mr. Alpert said. “Our instinct as reporters was ‘We have to film that.’ And we didn’t. We would stand there, and then we would go over without the cameras running, and we would talk to people. And we would explain who we were, why we were there, and ask if it would be possible for them to share with us.”

POPSWhy We Need Hope A good friend said these words to me: " Zinn says the stories of the darkest times are the best stories, because there are always heroes in the midst of it resisting the darkness, and if we don't tell the dark stories, we never learn of the heroes. It's the thing about being like Jesus - to his contemporaries, even to his followers, he always looked like a disappointing failure. But they have faded from history. So we look like losers, too. And we aren't." :)

POPSTurning Facts Into Speculation Let a bisexual woman say for once and all that all women are NOT bisexual. How silly to put up one picture of a man who looks like a player with bad hair and bad jewelry and a huge package swathed in purple and make a statement that all women are bisexual because they found the second picture of the woman to be more appealing. Bisexuality is very complex and most likely a variant. Does that mean there aren't a lot of women who are bisexual and closeted? Of course not. Is attraction based on more than just the image in the retina? YES, YES, YES. Do I have to post a link to a video of PINK to forget all of this? DUH.

POPSCitizen Terrorists Deleted "Promising reform to angry legislators, the Maryland police are scrambling not so much to apologize as to notify the 53 that they were falsely deemed terrorists and can inspect their files before the files are purged. The databases were originally intended for anti-drug intelligence, but were misused, officials explained, by zealous, “technologically challenged” commanders. Constitutionally challenged, as well."

POPSThe East Coast Condo Bible I just found the mother load of east coast condo living, quite by accident, at that! Every year my hubby and I make the journey to our favorite condo destination for two weeks of nothing but GLORY. We go to our condo in Perdido Key, Gulf Shores. We call it "Our Blue Heaven". White sand. Clean beaches. Good Neighbors. Lately, our vacation time has come later in the year during inclement weather. I was looking for an affordable place to take a holiday...and poof - I found the honey-pot of all condo living sites. This company has few places to rent that are near and dear to my heart like "ILoveFolly Beach.com" - what a find. It's like the east caost condo bible. Everything you always wanted to know about traveling to a southern beach vacation condo...and then some.

POPSWhy Do People Smoke After Having Sex? "On their first date, a man asked his companion if she'd like a drink. "Oh, no, what would I tell my Sunday school class?" she said. Later he offered her a cigarette. "Oh, no, what would I tell my Sunday school class?" she said again. On the drive home, he saw a motel. Figuring he had nothing to lose, he asked if she wanted to stop in there. "Okay," she replied. "What will you tell your Sunday school class?" he asked, shocked. "The same thing I always tell them: 'You do not have to drink or smoke to have a good time.'" That's my motto :)

POPSPalin's Kind Of Patriotism "How in the world can conservative commentators write with a straight face that this woman should be vice president of the United States? Do these people understand what serious trouble our country is in right now?"

POPSThe Human Season "I can feel for a moment how insubstantial those thoughts really are, before they engulf me again."

POPSWhy People Need To Be In Love A woman is like a pack of cards ... ... You need a heart to love her ... A diamond to marry her ... A club to smash her head in ... And a spade to bury the bitch Ok, that was a little rude, I admit, but FUNNY

POPSWomen Test Limits "Now, women are taking courses run by nongovernmental organizations, getting educated and learning ways to improve their family incomes. Most important, the women have won over the men, she said. “Their minds have changed,” Najiba said. “They want to share decisions, not too far, but they want to give us some share.”

POPSSwedish Spoken Here We are going to need those abroad to keep our economy strong and they are going to need us to be healthy as well. We all need each other and we need to concentrate on keeping our country free from terrorists attacks but visitor friendly in the process.

POPSFew Cared And I am not one who did. There is no doubt in my mind that OJ was not only a killer in the first trial, but a thug in the next. Justice has a way of dispersing itself to those who think they are above the law.

POPSPalin's Alternate Universe “Say it ain’t so, Joe! There you go pointing backwards again ... Now, doggone it, let’s look ahead and tell Americans what we have to plan to do for them in the future. You mentioned education, and I’m glad you did. I know education you are passionate about with your wife being a teacher for 30 years, and God bless her. Her reward is in heaven, right? Aw-shucks, darn-right, I’m-just-a-hockey-mom governor of Alaska mouthing something completely devoid of meaning? If Governor Palin didn’t like a question, or didn’t know the answer, she responded as though some other question had been asked. She made no bones about this, saying early in the debate: “I may not answer the questions the way that either the moderator or you want to hear.”

POPSOH, She Understands More Than We Think
"There was not a word about Mr. Cheney’s role in starting the war with Iraq, in misleading Americans about weapons of mass destruction, in leading the charge to create illegal prison camps where detainees are tortured, in illegally wiretapping Americans, in creating an energy policy that favored the oil industry that made him very rich before the administration began. The Constitution does not state or imply any flexibility in the office of vice president. It gives the vice president no legislative responsibilities other than casting a tie-breaking vote in the Senate when needed and no executive powers at all. The vice president’s constitutional role is to be ready to serve if the president dies or becomes incapacitated. Any president deserves a vice president who will be a sound adviser and trustworthy supporter. But the American people also deserve and need a vice president who understands and respects the balance of power — and the limits of his or her own power. That is fundament

POPSNo Gay marriage Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
