Are Prtospective Mothers Eager to Abort their Black Babies?
    DanaGarrett
    by DanaGarrett  7-17-2009    2
Notice what this bigoted dunderhead, Rep. Todd Tiahart, is suggesting. Notice how his two examples are of the mothers of black children (President Barack Obama and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas). I think it’s clear. If the prospective mothers of black babies could have their fetuses aborted and have it paid for by the government, they would do so. That is what this--it must be pointed out--Republican congressperson implied.

While the Republicans in Congress are trying to protect the high salaries and bonuses of CEOs living now on the taxpayer dime, the majority of the unemployed go without health insurance or Medicaid. They are are too poor for the former and unqualified for the latter.

    Interesting Article Abstract on Poverty

Apparently this research finds that consumer prices are higher (2 - 5%) in poor neighborhoods compared to wealthy neighborhoods. The inability of the poor to shop for consumer goods that are less expensive is determined by their lack of access to cars. They are stuck paying higher prices. The benefits of a competitive market are disproportionately denied to the poor.

The Return of Tent Cities to America

    by DanaGarrett  9-18-2008
From the news article: early 61 percent of local and state homeless coalitions say they've experienced a rise in homelessness since the foreclosure crisis began in 2007, according to a report by the National Coalition for the Homeless. The group says the problem has worsened since the report's release in April, with foreclosures mounting, gas and food prices rising and the job market tightening. "It's clear that poverty and homelessness have increased," said Michael Stoops, acting executive director of the coalition. "The economy is in chaos, we're in an unofficial recession and Americans are worried, from the homeless to the middle class, about their future." The phenomenon of encampments has caught advocacy groups somewhat by surprise, largely because of how quickly they have sprung up. "What you're seeing is encampments that I haven't seen since the 80s," said Paul Boden, executive director of the Western Regional Advocacy Project, an umbrella group for homeless advocacy

    DanaGarrett
    by DanaGarrett  6-9-2008
We are aproaching a point where 1 out of every 10 Americans will be on food stamps. That will not include the number of poor who, for various reasons, don't recieve food stamps. 1 out of every 10. That's beginning to sound 3rd-world-like.

I thought John Edwards would have made a great President. At least he's not sitting still. The man clearly cares and wants to help even if he can't do it from the oval office.

    The Health Savings Account Scam
    DanaGarrett
    by DanaGarrett  5-22-2008
Health Savings Accounts are one of the biggest scams devised by politicians. They are sold to the public as ways to help the uninsured and under-insured, but they are really devised to provide a tax shelter for relatively wealthy people. It's a way that politicians use the needs of the poor and middle class uninsured to benefit higher income people. This study proves it.
