POPSFreddie Mac Paid $2 Million to Target Republican Senators In 2005 Freddie Mac paid a consulting firm $2 million to target Republican Senators to kill legislation that would have regulated the institution and perhaps save it from collapse. In a letter written to then Majority Leader Bill Frist, Sen. Chuck Hagel and 25 other GOP Senators warned: ""If effective regulatory reform legislation ... is not enacted this year, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system and the economy as a whole." Little did they know that they were being done in by their own colleagues under the influence of an intense lobbying campaign. This is yet another smoking gun.

POPSEvery Woman in America Should Be Angry at John McCain After Barack Obama described how he opposes late term abortion except where the life and health of the mother are placed at risk, John McCain cast aspersion on the relevance of the health exception by using air quotes and treating the seriousness of the exception sarcastically. I guess the long-term health of pregnant women has little regard to John McCain.

McCain shows up in DC, has a few conversations with Congressional leaders, is seen walking through a lobby in the congressional building and tries to create the illusion that he brokered an economy-saving deal. It was all smoke and mirrors. Worse, there was no deal. McCain had no sway with the House Republicans. He failed to deliver what he promised. That failure is fair game.

Although I don't deny that McCain failed to look Obama because he was angry, I believe that he didn't look at Obama as a way to control his anger from becoming outright rage. It's a device used by people with anger management problems. Look away so that the anger doesn't become overly personal or even violent--to make it as if the other person is not in the room. John McCain has to do these things because he is pathologically angry. He is a man who can't help himself in ways...someone who deserves our pity and compassion but not our votes.

He just didn't like anyone pulling off the mask on his awful vice presidential pick. The "punishment" is a shot over the bow to the press warning them to back off asking difficult questions. Sadly, the press probably will back off. Who wants to risk losing future interviews and exclusives? It's bad for business.

POPSMcCain's Latest Attack Ad: Obama Thinks He My Be "The One" McCain has reached a new low. Now he is suggesting that Obama believes he is a divine and messianic figure. Notice how he takes clips out of context and even skews Obama's statement "WE may by the oneS" as Obama claiming that he is "The One." McCain has achieved a new level of lying in a campaign. He has gone beyond the usual patriotism and red-baiting smears. Now he is suggesting that his opponent is committing sacrilege. What's next? Will he suggest that Obama is the anti-Christ? At this point, I wouldn't put it past him.

POPSMcCain Lied about the "Evidence" of Obama Not Visiting Wounded Troops McCain claimed that Obama didn't visit the troops because he couldn't take reporters & cameras with him. That wasn't true. In fact, it was never true. He had no plans to take reporters with him. The McCain campaign claimed that press reports indicated that Obama planned on taking reporters with him, but their "proof" didn't substantiate their claim: "It is safe to say that, according to press reports, Barack Obama avoided, skipped, canceled the visit because of those reasons," he said. "We're not making a leap here." Asked repeatedly for the "reports," Bounds provided three examples, none of which alleged that Obama had wanted to take members of the media to the hospital. McCain's campaign lied, plain and simple.

POPSLatest Cheap Shot by John McCain Note that Paris Hilton and Britney Spears are included in this ad against Obama although they are completely irrelevant to his campaign. McCain is creating an association that doesn't exist in reality among the three of them and, then, expects the viewer to think that Obama's "celebrity" is related to the drunken and dissipated lifestyles of Hilton & Spears. If McCain didn't want us to draw that conclusion, he could have chosen examples of celebrity that were more honorific. This ad is a total cheap shot.

POPSOff Shore Drilling Talk Raises Big Campaign Cash for McCain Increased offshore drilling will only lower the cost of gasoline a few cents on the gallon and only then it will take several years for the new wells to come on line. But it seems that John McCain was thinking about a more immediate cash benefit: the cash that would flow from Big Oil execs into his campaign coffers.
