I could never be anti Semitic because the Arabs are a Semitic race and I admire the Arab Civilization. I spring from the Christian Tradition, which is a Semitic Religion. I could never be anti-Jewish because the Jews are people and I try to respect people. However,I am not obliged to admire any State and I am afraid that I do not admire the State of Israel.

When you look at their long term strategy of setting up mainly 'Jewish' settlements on Palestinian land, the true position reveals itself.

POPSThe 'Darwin Industry' The way to get famous as a scientist is partly to discover or investigate something but also to make sure that your 'marketing' is right... Just about everyone on the planet has at least heard of Darwin but poor old Wallace is not so well known. In a similar vein, most people have heard of Stephen Hawking but many remain ignorant of his former collaborator Roger Penrose, who is just as brilliant - if not more so Penrose probably made the mistake of including the equations in his books!

POPSBeing Human and Language I wonder what Heidegger would have had to say about Google or the World Wide Web? Speaking for myself, I have always believed that Language cannot fully encompass our experience. Some of the pivotal moments in life seem beyond words. My Father died nearly seven years ago and I still cannot put into words what it means to me. I don't believe I ever will. Consequently, the all encompassing semantic/lexical web of language will never encapsulate it.. My experience of 'the One' or 'Allah' or 'God' - choose your own label - is the same. It cannot be articulated. Maybe that is why we need the 'Word of God'

POPSThe Tail is still trying to Wag the Dog! It is time for America and its new President to show Israel who is the senior partner in their relationship. Israel is nothing without the Economic & Military underpinning which the USA provides them with. America should remind them of this fact. To attack Iran would be the height of folly and would not even produce the long term objective of preventing Nuclear Proliferation in the Middle East. Israel obtained its Nuclear Arsenal from the United States by means of clandestine operations in the past. Seems rather hypocritical to point the finger at Iran for doing exactly the same thing! It takes one to know one eh?

POPSWho is your 'special friend' ? The 'special relationship' between Britain and America may have had some validity during WW2. However, over the ensuing decades it has turned into a very 'one way' affair. I think that it is time to agree to an amicable separation!

POPSThe self-confessed pointlessness of Richard Dawkins If Dawkins really believes this, why does he bother writing anything at all (well, yes, he probably likes the money) ? There does not seem much point in writing about a meaningless universe. I can only presume that he derives some sort of meaning in conveying to the rest of us believing idiots the futility of our existence ! I am glad that I do not possess his level of IQ, if this is what it produces... Ignorance is bliss !

POPS'Don't Panic' More Snow on the way ... maybe We are very proud of our record of standing up to the 'blitz' during the last war, here in Britain. However, faced with a couple of inches of Snow, we immediately descend into utter panic & chaos! Will we be ready if the worst happens again tomorrow? Only time will tell...

POPSFree at last ! Stephen Fry - stuck in lift... Along with 100 000 plus others, I follow Stephen Fry on 'Twitter'. He became stuck in a lift on the 26th Floor of Center Point ! It was hilarious following this debacle and Stephen transmitted this picture.

POPSThe 'Fears' of America The United States are just going to have to get used to the fact that the world does not revolve around its concerns. If they can live with a Nuclear Armed Israel then they will just have to learn to live with an Iranian Satellite or two. There is a big wide world out there who do not see themselves as lying within the 'Pax Americana'. Learn to live with it !
