POPSBooks you should read before you die Most of the books on the list I have not heard of. Like most lists, and most people, they have different perspectives. I'm glad to see that Haruki Murakami has several books on the list. Though i do believe that his new novel After Dark and his short stories are better that his popular Kafka Currently I'm reading a Robert Ludlum (The Matarese Countdown), cant say that I'm that impressed. What are you reading? And is it worth reading.

POPS18 Unconvincing Arguments for God A student asked what would convince me that God exists? I named a few miracles that would at least convince me that something supernatural exists. But the question stuck in my mind and I naturally began to think of what wouldn’t convince me. Thus, if the goal of these students was to evangelize an atheist, it seemed perfectly appropriate that I give them a list of what wouldn’t work, so they could creatively come up with some new arguments, as their class title suggests. I meant this to be educational and in no way condescending, and that is how I hope the students perceive my presentation.

POPSDo monkeys pay for sex This is also evident in penguins. The penguins nest is generally made up of pretty stones and twigs. The female penguin leaves her nest in seek of nicer stones that other male penguins have collected. She initiates sex, and receives these pretty stones as payment, sometimes she does not even have to perform the act to get payment, just show interest. I saw this on a documentary, if anyone knows of an article based on this please provide a link.

POPSThe Euphemism Generator In third year linguistics I wrote a report on swearing and euphemisms. I got a B+ for my efforts. It was really a fun paper to write I even used George Carlen as a source. It’s no everyday you see Carlen and Freud cited in the same report. What I found interesting was how words that are euphemisms become vulgar and then we need need euphemisms. Take the word ‘Arse’ for an example, this was considered to be vulgar and the euphemism ‘Ass’ was used instead. Today the roles have reversed, ‘Ass’ is seen as the vulgar and many people will use ‘Arse’ as a euphemism.

POPSMission To Mars This is strange as conspiracy theorists said that the moon landing could not have taken place due to the radiation and that the astronauts would have been dead before landing on the moon. NASA says here that they will not have prolonged exposure. This brings up the question did the moon landing take place. I mean they only ever had one moon landing.
