    Anti-Trust Problems Brewing For Google?
    Brian Caulfield
    by Brian Caulfield  9-8-2008
Good news for Microsoft! Some think Apple is the new Microsoft and the DOJ seems to think Google may be the new Microsoft. All of which means it's safe for Microsoft to act a bit more like the old Microsoft again.

The smart money is betting that Microsoft's mysterious "lips" project -- to be unveiled tomorrow -- involves bringing voice recognition to online gaming. The XBox has been a bright spot for Microsoft, with the gaming company carving out a spot for itself in the console business by offering up the best thought-out online gaming service for consoles.

    Too Lazy For Microsoft Office
    Brian Caulfield
    by Brian Caulfield  12-22-2007
Henry Blodget nails it. Open-source ideologues have railed for years against Microsoft's lock on the office productivity market. Many of them have even eschewed Microsoft's Office suite in favor of open-source alternatives.... But Microsoft never had a problem until now, when the online alternatives are so easy, and so accessible, many of us are just too lazy to reach for the credit card and spring for $150 worth of software from Microsoft.

Google Loosens Microsoft's Grip On BlackBerry Users
    Brian Caulfield
    by Brian Caulfield  12-20-2007
Nice overview by Om Malik of Google's slick new Sync software, which neatly links the calendar on your Blackberry to Google's calendar application. Om, however, neglects to mention the most interesting aspect of this -- how this application helps move BlackBerry users away from Microsoft Outlook, until now the most convenient way to dump your calendar info onto the device. Google may softpedal it, but this is just one more sign that the fight between Microsoft and Google is only just starting.

Blodget On Google's Threat to Microsoft
    Brian Caulfield
    by Brian Caulfield  12-16-2007
Blogdet makes a great point here. Google's online apps are pretty crude, and yet they're a real threat to Microsoft's much more sophisticated desktop offerings. However, Microsoft is looking at more than just a disruption to its business from Google's low-end applications. It disrupts its own business every time it rolls out a new, more complex version of Word. I've got to admit, I can't really use the latest version of Word -- and rather than just gutting it out with the new program -- I just pop open my browser, cruise on over to Google Docs, and get to work.
