http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/teens.htm Just Google "USA Murder Statistics." The top site to appear will be the Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics. Click on it, then go to "Demographic Trends." Click on "Age." For hard numbers on the key demographics, click on the colored graphs. Run the numbers yourself, based upon the demographic percentages of murders per every 100,000 people. Then look at the actual murder counts. Know what else you'll learn? In 2005 alone, 8,718 young Americans from the same age group were murdered in this country. That's well over twice as many as the number of troops killed in all our foreign missions since 2001. Maybe military service not only prevents you from committing crimes, but also keeps you alive?

CNN Poll: McCain can compete with Obama and Clinton.
    BitDrifter
    by BitDrifter  1-13-2008    3
While McCain wouldn't be my first choice as a conservative leaning Republican, I think he stands the greatest chance of winning in 2008. He is a maverick and like it or not the American people do want what they view as a change from Bush. They want someone they feel can work with the the other party not necessarily against. They want what they view as a reformer. And like it or not, McCain fits the bill. And in all honesty and bluntness, my only care right now is making sure a R is next to the name of the person in the Oval Office. At least this way I know the Republican base can have some sway over his decision making and I know the Iraqis won't be thrown out with the weekly trash. Republicans are in dire straits this election (as they were in 2006) we haven't had the turn out like the Democrats have, and nearly every poll is against us. It's not a time for principles it's a time for reality, McCain is probably going to receive my primary vote.

Patients Left To Starve On NHS Wards::Scandalous
    merrie
    by merrie  1-6-2008    2
He said: "Malnourished patients are more prone to infections, have more complications after surgery, and have higher mortality rates - yet the Government allows more than 130,000 patients to enter hospital in the state. "If patients are at risk of malnutrition, then they should be offered extra support before going into hospital, and they should be cared for better whilst they are in hospital. "It is a scandal that in 21st-century Britain, we allow vulnerable patients to be let out of hospital in a malnourished state, and it is even worse that we allow thousands of patients to get more poorly while they are in hospital. It is estimated that the poor quality of hospital food is putting patients off to the extent that 13 million meals are thrown away each year. Ivan Lewis admitted patients were being starved on wards, with some elderly people given little a scoop of mashed potato for lunch.

    A Legitimate National Debate
    cniq_cniq

"Some conservatives shared that view at the time and even more do now, most prominently William F. Buckley and George Will. If you are vocal, or literary, on behalf of this sensibility, you are eligible to receive disagreement but not disrespect." "The same holds true if you maintain the war was a great idea at the time, the best available choice in the circumstances, but the resultant bog offers no benefit for our lingering. Here again you can make a case that proceeds from the premise that people of good will proceeded with good intentions to undertake an effort in good faith but deduces that fate did not produce a good result. Nothing undermining about saying we made a good investment but the company flopped and it is time to cut our losses. This is the language good people use when they participate in constructive debate."
