POPSThe Democrats' Fairy Tale
And the improvements in Anbar could never have been sustained without aggressive American military efforts — efforts that were more effective in 2007 than they had been in 2006, due in part to the addition of the surge forces. Last year’s success, in Anbar and elsewhere, was made possible by confidence among Iraqis that U.S. troops would stay and help protect them, that the U.S. would not abandon them to their enemies. Because the U.S. sent more troops instead of withdrawing — because, in other words, President Bush won his battles in 2007 with the Democratic Congress — we have been able to turn around the situation in Iraq. And now Iraq’s Parliament has passed a de-Baathification law — one of the so-called benchmarks Congress established for political reconciliation. For much of 2007, Democrats were able to deprecate the military progress and political reconciliation taking place on the ground by harping on the failure of the Iraqi government to pass the benchmark legislation

POPSObama's Interview With Military Times July 02, 2008 Somebody please ask junior Senator Barack Obama what he means when he says that contract worker support of our war effort should be just used for kitchen work and automobile repair. Does Barack Obama actually know what kind of invaluable service outfits like Blackwater perform in the support of our efforts in ferreting out zeolots who want to do harm to the Iraqi citizens we are trying to liberate? This is what Barack said to The Military Times, July 2, 2008: There is room for private contractors to work in the mess hall, providing basic supplies and doing some logistical work that might have been done in-house in the past. I am troubled by the use of private contractors when it comes to potential armed engagements… It is frightening to think Obama is one step away from being Commander in Chief. UPDATE: Astute Bloggers has more on Obama's Far Left attitude on Blackwater employees.

POPSConfidence Poll Well, it's not surprising. I am pleased that, even though it's lower than I would have expected, the military was at the top. Congress is, indeed, in the very pit.

POPSFrance Signs Military Base Agreement With United Arab Emirates French Vice Admiral Jacques Mazars, who heads the project, said the base would include members of the French navy, army and air force. Outside of Iraq, the United States has about 40,000 U.S. troops on bases across the Gulf – including the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. The British military also has a small presence in the Gulf. The Royal Air Force operates out of Al Udeid, a U.S. air force base in Qatar, and the military is part of the coalition naval task force based in Bahrain.

POPS Report: Chinese Ships Confronted USS Kitty Hawk Adm. Timothy Keating, who heads the U.S. Pacific Command, is in Beijing this week to discuss what he has called China’s “perplexing” refusals, its worrisome weapons programs and U.S.-China military ties. Beijing claims Taiwan as its own, vowing to attack the self-ruled island if it moves to formalize its de facto independence. The U.S., Taiwan’s chief security benefactor, is legally obligated to help defend the island in the face of Chinese saber-rattling.

POPSNew York Times Troop Smear Campaign 'Killer-GI' Lie http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/teens.htm Just Google "USA Murder Statistics." The top site to appear will be the Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics. Click on it, then go to "Demographic Trends." Click on "Age." For hard numbers on the key demographics, click on the colored graphs. Run the numbers yourself, based upon the demographic percentages of murders per every 100,000 people. Then look at the actual murder counts. Know what else you'll learn? In 2005 alone, 8,718 young Americans from the same age group were murdered in this country. That's well over twice as many as the number of troops killed in all our foreign missions since 2001. Maybe military service not only prevents you from committing crimes, but also keeps you alive?

POPS The Real McCain Record Mark Levin NRO
His supporters point to essentially one policy strength, McCain’s early support for a surge and counterinsurgency. It has now evolved into McCain taking credit for forcing the president to adopt General David Petreaus’s strategy. Where’s the evidence to support such a claim? McCain has repeatedly called for the immediate closing of Guantanamo Bay and the introduction of al-Qaeda terrorists into our own prisons — despite the legal rights they would immediately gain and the burdens of managing such a dangerous population. While McCain proudly and repeatedly points to his battles with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who had to rebuild the U.S. military and fight a complex war, where was McCain in the lead-up to the war — when the military was being dangerously downsized by the Clinton administration. Where was McCain when the CIA was in desperate need of attention? McCain was apparently in the dark about al-Qaeda like most of Washington, despite a decade of warnings.

POPSStupid Intelligence My goodness. Even Alan Dershowitz recognizes an incomplete, flawed, and/or misinterpreted assessment of Iran's nuclear program. Yet, those with the BDS have hopped on the NIE as though it were handed down from God.

POPS Our Troops Need Your Help::Petition Congress The Democrats in Congress are playing a dangerous game that could leave our military without the necessary funding to continue operations. According to Defense Secretary Robert Gates: "The military would cease operations at all army bases by mid-February of next year. This would result in the furloughing of about 100,000 government employees and a like number of contractor employees at army bases. These layoffs would have a cascading effect on depots and procurement. Similar actions would follow for the Marine Corps about a month later." We cannot let this happen. The Democrats are attempting to stall on a $50 billion supplemental defense spending bill in order to appeal to their liberal political base.
