POPSObama Tells O'Reilly Surge Succeeded Before the interview was arranged, Obama and his staff held a closed door meeting with Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes to discuss his network's media coverage of the presidential election. According to Ailes, Obama wanted to know if he would get a "fair shake" from Fox. Ailes told the Washington Post he replied, "Senator, you're the one who boycotted us. We're not the ones who boycotted you. Nor did we retaliate for your boycott."

POPSMcCain VP Talk Turns To 2 Female Conservatives "She's got it all, and is a remarkable leader who brings a number of good qualities to the table," said Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America. Mrs. Palin is "a mother of five, is a genuine Alaskan, is a hunter, is a dog sledder, is very much for drilling for oil, has a great reform reputation, took on big oil on behalf of the people of Alaska," Mr. Gingrich said. "I think she would bring a level of excitement and uniqueness that people would have to stop and say, 'Boy, this is kind of intriguing.'"

POPSBush's Letter Puts Putin In A Good Mood
Two Cold War-era agreements -- The Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, which Russia suspended last year, and the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which expires next year -- will also be addressed. A source in the Defense Ministry said progress was only likely if Rice and Gates "bring with them new proposals that take into account Moscow's concerns," Itar-Tass reported. But the Pentagon's Morrell reiterated on the sidelines of Monday's meeting that nothing new was on the table. "We come armed with no new proposals," he said, adding that the purpose of this visit was to demonstrate that the United States planned to "stand by its proposals. We are not going to sweeten them." Putin's guardedly positive statement Monday came in contrast to efforts by both sides ahead of the talks to dampen expectations for any significant progress on the missile-defense issue. U.S. officials stressed that they would not make any new offers, while Moscow said new overtures were necessa

POPSFred Thompson in Glimpses
Olbermann embarrasses the news business with his complete un-professionalism. "MessNBC" with their intentional audio inclusion of the unseen production crew, saw it acceptable to loudly razz an inspiring speech by Fred Thompson from So.Carolina early Saturday evening. K.O.along with Chris Matthews, come off like a pair of drop-outs sharing a 40 oz.'er and a joint - guys like Joe Scarborough have to be completely embarrassed having to appear with "The Most Disgusting News Fraud IN THE W-O-R-L-D! ! !" Matthews, having been relegated to sidekick to squinty-eyed Keith, asks the most absurd questions of each analyst and reporter that they don't even try to answer, wondering if he's actually even serious or not. There's nothing more disgusting than taking personalities like those two, making them feel self-important, and fueling that with alcohol. They are clearly drunk, resulting in a vulgar display of adolescent political analysis and childish disrespect for those that are the adult

POPSLiberal Hatemongers In 1998, Bill Clinton and Al Gore were hardly popular among conservatives. Still, in the 1998 ANES survey, Messrs. Clinton and Gore both received a perfectly-respectable average temperature of 45 from those who called themselves extremely conservative. While 28% of the far right gave Clinton a temperature of zero, Gore got a zero from just 10%. The bottom line is that there is simply no comparison between the current hatred the extreme left has for Messrs. Bush and Cheney, and the hostility the extreme right had for Messrs. Clinton and Gore in the late 1990s.

POPSThe Middle Swings Left this Year I was discussing this with Kmcolo, and this seems to bear out some of my hunch. It would appear that the Republican Party is polarizing in the primaries, rather than gaining strength as it did in the past. It would appear that only the core party faithfull are turning out for the primaries. This is especially striking in Michigan, because there was no functional Democratic primary. (Their delegates got suspended) This should bring up independent numbers voting GOP since it was pretty much that or stay home. Given this, it looks like the independents in Michigan are pretty squarely waiting to vote for the ultimate Democrat nominee. Romney, Huckabee and Ron Paul are all riding high on a wave of pessimism that drives away normal voters and leaves only extremists.

POPSCNN Poll: McCain can compete with Obama and Clinton.
While McCain wouldn't be my first choice as a conservative leaning Republican, I think he stands the greatest chance of winning in 2008. He is a maverick and like it or not the American people do want what they view as a change from Bush. They want someone they feel can work with the the other party not necessarily against. They want what they view as a reformer. And like it or not, McCain fits the bill. And in all honesty and bluntness, my only care right now is making sure a R is next to the name of the person in the Oval Office. At least this way I know the Republican base can have some sway over his decision making and I know the Iraqis won't be thrown out with the weekly trash. Republicans are in dire straits this election (as they were in 2006) we haven't had the turn out like the Democrats have, and nearly every poll is against us. It's not a time for principles it's a time for reality, McCain is probably going to receive my primary vote.

POPSObama is surging!! Man, he is really looking unstoppable. I don't know why, but i honestly find myself feeling bad for Hillary. The amount of frustration she must be feeling is simply massive. I also feel bad that she literally has to hear over and over again how unlikeable she is. That said, i think Obama is really in touch with what people are feeling and what they're looking for. If he goes on to win the nomination, I think he will be nearly impossible for republicans to beat in november.

POPSKevin Rudd recoils from climate change pledge Well, well, well. Welcome to real-life governing, PM Rudd. It's amazing that once a person gets into office they have to change their PC stances because they are economically destructive/impractical and would bring national suicide. Too bad he had this reality check *after* the election.

POPS Venezuela Has Won, Si ! Voters in Venezuela defeated a contentious referendum that would have given President Hugo Chávez sweeping new powers, the Election Commission announced early Monday.

POPS Poll Says Chavez Loses Venezuela Referendum Lead A student movement has emerged to lead the anti-Chavez campaign, amplifying the condemnation from traditional opposition parties, the Roman Catholic church, rights groups and the defectors who say the reforms are authoritarian. Chavez, who refuses to scrap term limits for other officials, would have to leave office in 2013 without the law change. He urged Venezuelans to see vote as a referendum on him. This year, Chavez has hurt his standing by shutting an opposition TV station and failing to end some food shortages. Amanda Aguilar, 17, was in line at 5:30 a.m. waiting for a food store to open to buy her single, rationed carton of milk. The student from Chavez's home-state of Barinas hopes the referendum will force him to change or force him out of office. "All this lining up ends come December 2," she said.

POPSDemocrats Say Leaving Iraq May Take Years Despite most of what they say and spout, they *know* that pulling out of Iraq soon is impossible. Any of them, as President, would not do it. And yet they continue to insinuate differently. What bothers me about their ideas mentioned in the article, is that by minimizing our force there, we endanger them and make them a more easy force to overcome and defeat. If I were an American soldier serving, I would want 100 soldiers with me, not 10.

POPSMurtha and Pelosi Still Press for Our Defeat These wackos will get so extreme that even their constituents will have realized what a pack of dangerous people they have voted in. Hopefully in the next election cycle the Far Left will be Left Out of power.

POPSDaily Kos Bans Sheehan This is classic. Does anyone believe the reaction would have been different if Ms. Sheehan had opted for a primary challenge instead? And folks thought that the tendency to eat one's own was a uniquely Republican failing.
