Fed Pumps Further $630 Billion Into Financial System (Update3) The Fed's expansion of liquidity, the biggest since credit markets seized up last year, came hours before the U.S. House of Representatives rejected a $700 billion bailout for the financial industry. The crisis is reverberating through the global economy, causing stocks to plunge and forcing European governments to rescue four banks over the past two days alone. Sept. 29 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve will pump an additional $630 billion into the global financial system, flooding banks with cash to alleviate the worst banking crisis since the Great Depression. The Fed increased its existing currency swaps with foreign central banks by $330 billion to $620 billion to make more dollars available worldwide. The Term Auction Facility, the Fed's emergency loan program, will expand by $300 billion to $450 billion. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=ahwz_k5JvuB8&refer=worldwide

A reminder to remember Palin and her family in my prayers. "As usual, the DailyKos has been in the forefront of the attacks on Palin. Many of the more despicable attacks, such as the story that it was Palin's daughter Bristol who gave birth to Trig, have been removed from DailyKos' site -- not because they were inaccurate (which they were), but because they were becoming embarrassing to DailyKos and its owner and chief propagandist, Markos Moulitsas." "But DailyKos still has 51 lines of attack against Governor Palin up on their website, and to show you how depraved the mainstream media has become, many of them have been embraced by outlets such as CNN (embracing Kos Attack #4)."

Mrs. Palin is "a mother of five, is a genuine Alaskan, is a hunter, is a dog sledder, is very much for drilling for oil, has a great reform reputation, took on big oil on behalf of the people of Alaska," Mr. Gingrich said. "I think she would bring a level of excitement and uniqueness that people would have to stop and say, 'Boy, this is kind of intriguing.'"

And the improvements in Anbar could never have been sustained without aggressive American military efforts — efforts that were more effective in 2007 than they had been in 2006, due in part to the addition of the surge forces. Last year’s success, in Anbar and elsewhere, was made possible by confidence among Iraqis that U.S. troops would stay and help protect them, that the U.S. would not abandon them to their enemies. Because the U.S. sent more troops instead of withdrawing — because, in other words, President Bush won his battles in 2007 with the Democratic Congress — we have been able to turn around the situation in Iraq. And now Iraq’s Parliament has passed a de-Baathification law — one of the so-called benchmarks Congress established for political reconciliation. For much of 2007, Democrats were able to deprecate the military progress and political reconciliation taking place on the ground by harping on the failure of the Iraqi government to pass the benchmark legislation

Eat Crow, liberal Iraqi war skeptics
    pkronfield
    by pkronfield  6-9-2008    17
If Democrats had won the White House in 2004, the jihadists might have succeeded. The idiotic liberals are still for retreat in the face of victory. The US decision to "stay the course" in the Iraq war, which was also widely mocked and criticized, served to thoroughly demoralize the jihadist movement. Another example of why liberals are unfit to run this country, unless you want to run it into the ground.

Iraq could be decisive victory over bin Laden
    pkronfield
    by pkronfield  2-17-2008    1
I have always felt that Bush's plan to invade Iraq was the right thing to do, and was strategically brilliant. It was the way to rid the Middle East of a tyrant, draw in and decimate al Qaeda, and an effective way to ultimately defeat al Qaeda and jihadist philosphy, that could never have been done in Afghanistan alone. Once again the democrats have been proven wrong on Iraq and wrong on how to fight and defeat al Qaeda. History will provide Bush and his administration with a legacy as a brilliant war president who executed a brilliant, difficult and daring war plan successfully. And the title of this piece is telling - who has been trying to sell the American people with Iraq's Jihad Myths? The liberal mainstream media, that's who.

PRO-VICTORY IRAQ VETERANS RUNNING FOR CONGRESS IN 2008
    merrie
    by merrie  2-11-2008
Whether Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine, we all shared a common goal in Iraq: victory. As Republican candidates for Congress we share a vision for America’s future, her security, and that of future generations. We are unified in our commitment to relieve the Democrats of their command of Congress. Voters want to restore leadership and honor back to Washington. Who better to accomplish that mission than our generation of warriors? All veterans whose service to the United States brought them first to Iraq and now to a run for the House as pro-victory Republicans are welcome to become part of Iraq Veterans For Congress. United we are capable of sending to Congress a squad-size element of Iraq vets to keep us on offense in the War on Terror and counter calls for defeat. In short, unification of all Republican Iraq Veterans will be a powerful force multiplier. By joining forces we will generate crucial nationwide grassroots support while sharing ideas and strategies.

This clip is but a small portion of the presentation made by Rear Adm. Gergory Smith, Multi-National Force-Iraq. He provides a detailed brief of our efforts against AQI over the past year, including a slide show. You will never see this in the mainstream media or hear about it from the lips of democrats. It is a damning demonstration of how wrong liberals and democrats have been, and how unfit for any sort of leadership they are. I urge you to follow the link and read of our great successes against this evil enemy.

I was discussing this with Kmcolo, and this seems to bear out some of my hunch. It would appear that the Republican Party is polarizing in the primaries, rather than gaining strength as it did in the past. It would appear that only the core party faithfull are turning out for the primaries. This is especially striking in Michigan, because there was no functional Democratic primary. (Their delegates got suspended) This should bring up independent numbers voting GOP since it was pretty much that or stay home. Given this, it looks like the independents in Michigan are pretty squarely waiting to vote for the ultimate Democrat nominee. Romney, Huckabee and Ron Paul are all riding high on a wave of pessimism that drives away normal voters and leaves only extremists.

    by ColoradoRight  1-14-2008    2
We are not arguing that one had to agree with the surge or the Bush decision to go into Iraq. Dissent is a deep tradition in U.S. politics, and this war has become a bitter subject. It is evident, though, that the opposition to Iraq after the Democrats won control of Congress in 2006 has put these candidates in a corner. For the past year, Democrats in both the Senate and House have enforced rock-solid party opposition to every jot and tittle of the Bush policy. They now have four candidates running for the U.S. Presidency who seem to believe it is to their political advantage to deny manifest reality.

China, Cuba Reported In Gulf Of Mexico Oil Partnership
    merrie
    by merrie  1-13-2008    6
A newly-discovered, huge pool of oil and natural gas lies just slightly to the south of Key West, both in American and in Cuban waters. Despite the fact that we have huge oil reserves waiting to be tapped in the Gulf and in the ANWR area of Alaska, Congressional Democrats continue to oppose any measures that would free us from dependence on foreign oil and lower the price of gasoline and heating oil, while they continue the nonsense of subsidizing the fairy tale of ethanol. These Democrats are talking out of both sides of their mouths when they fake screaming about sending American troops to the Middle East, on the one hand, and then vote to stop the very steps that would help free us from dependence on foreign oil. Their two-faced approach also involves stopping the development of nuclear energy, since the rapid building of nuclear-electric plants would also help free us from this dependence while greatly improving the environment.

CNN Poll: McCain can compete with Obama and Clinton.

    by BitDrifter  1-13-2008    3
While McCain wouldn't be my first choice as a conservative leaning Republican, I think he stands the greatest chance of winning in 2008. He is a maverick and like it or not the American people do want what they view as a change from Bush. They want someone they feel can work with the the other party not necessarily against. They want what they view as a reformer. And like it or not, McCain fits the bill. And in all honesty and bluntness, my only care right now is making sure a R is next to the name of the person in the Oval Office. At least this way I know the Republican base can have some sway over his decision making and I know the Iraqis won't be thrown out with the weekly trash. Republicans are in dire straits this election (as they were in 2006) we haven't had the turn out like the Democrats have, and nearly every poll is against us. It's not a time for principles it's a time for reality, McCain is probably going to receive my primary vote.

What Shameless Liars The Media Are
    merrie
    by merrie  11-30-2007
The debate at home over the Iraq war has shifted significantly in the two months since Gen. David H. Petraeus testified to Congress and President Bush ordered the first troop withdrawals, with more Americans now concluding that the situation on the ground is improving. Even antiwar groups that once denied that security has gotten better have recalibrated their arguments to focus on the failed efforts to reach political conciliation among Iraqi factions or the risk of war with Iran. The evolving public attitudes reflect, or perhaps explain, a turn in Washington as well. While Bush and Congress are still fighting over the war, the debate has moved to the back burner as Iran, spending, health care, the economy and other issues generate more political energy.
