POPSCalif. Heads Toward Initiatve On Legal Marijuana "That, as a smoking substance, marijuana is far less addictive or harmful to the health of the People than tobacco--That, even though alcohol is harmful to the health and safety of the People, the prohibition of alcohol from 1920 to 1933 only increased the harms associated with alcohol use"

POPSPeaceful Assembly Outlawed In Walnut Cove, NC This is not just a religious rights problem, although those who caused it cannot see that. The right to assemble for any reason is affected. While the city has a right to maintain order, this is the wrong tool for the job they seek to accomplish.

POPSUS Human Rights Violations Embolden Others To Act The Same
"Well, it’s very ironic, in fact, for the UN human rights machinery to feel compelled to be involved in a country that has very high human rights standards, at least a legal protection for human rights. I think the choice of the site in Guantanamo Bay was the first marker that there was an attempt by the US administration to manage the war on terror outside the legal framework. I mean, it was a deliberate attempt to shelter the actions of the administration from judicial scrutiny. From day one, this was my biggest concern. I think Americans and people all over the world have every reason to have confidence in US institutions when they are all engaged together. The system of governments has several branches, and in the field of human rights the judicial branch is probably the most important one. It’s the forum for protection, upholding of human rights law. So the signal that this entire war on terror would be fought outside the legal framework, I think, was extremely troublesome."

POPSKnut, The Berlin Zoo Polar Bear - BEAUTIFUL!!! This magnificent creature is the subject of dispute, with animal rights activists saying he should be put down because he is being raised on the bottle after being rejected by his mother, and thus will not be an emotionally stable adult polar bear. While some conservationists agree with the argument to some extent, how can this make any sense in the face of the dwindling global population of these most majestic of all mammals?

POPSJFK Defines "Liberal" in 1960 While he was an imperfect man and thus an imperfect President, these are great ideas for any leader to strive to live up to. If only we had that strength of leadership now, or in the coming election.

POPSThe Rudiments Of Wisdom An encyclopedia in cartoon format. Kinda offbeat but fun and informative. It really is surprising the amount of knowledge this guy has crammed into his silly, but somewhat profound site.
