POPSThe Golden Rule I'm clipping this as I believe it is a thought piece to go along with the heated discussions taking place on the "This should be on every bible". clip. I especially like the Judaism version of the "Golden Rule" Ya see folks, its about some wise people in different parts of this disparate world long ago trying to formulate how societies could work together without tearing tearing each other to shreds. In other words its about EMPATHY. All the rest is merely rhetoric.

Any fact doubted should be verified but these days people are learning to do that as a matter of course. If we're going to get out of this hole, we n eed a bigger ladder.

POPSKnowledge is damaging to fundamentalism What I found most interesting was Altemeyer’s conclusion that actually reading the Bible can drive people away from fundamentalism. As Mary says: For the first problem: when the Bible is actually read, the actual text causes problems for the discerning reader. “The Bible was, they said, too often inconsistent, petty, boring, appalling, self-serving, or unbelievable.” Altemeyer found that although many fundamentalist Christians profess allegiance to an inerrant Bible, very few have actually read it completely for themselves and some who do find the inconsistencies too great.
