POPSHouston, We Have A Problem... A majority of Americans cling to a fairy tale to describe the origins of man (and women). To have their fantasies threatened evidently scares them to death. Because of this threat to their faith they lie without blinking an eye. Using their twisted logic that religion is not their motivation for squeezing Intelligent Design into science class falls apart when applied to other disciplines. There is no national push to teach astrology as an alternative to astronomy. There is no push to teach alchemy alongside chemistry. The only push is to teach Creationism (in the thin guise of ID) alongside evolution. And the drumbeat of lies from the IDers continues. Their discredited "science" (see Dover Penn trial) continues to be their best hope of getting god into the classroom and they won't stop until this is accomplished.

Ask anyone who has waded through the tortured reasoning of theists to reconcile their beliefs with scientific facts knows that believing in talking snakes, burning bushes, Jewish zombies, or virgin births has to forgo reality and enter a world of myth and fairy tales. Ordinarily this could be viewed as simply a character quirk. But unfortunately it has wider reaching consequences. We are dumbing down our children because of irrational belief in a bronze age culture's view of the world. In our society, ignorance is thought charming while intelligence is "elitism". How ass backwards is this?

Ignorance is one thing but to tout sheer stupidity as a positive character aspect is beyond the pale. Should prove to be interesting. My personal hope is that the DI receives the same thrashing in Texas as they did in Dover. Safe to say this group is not in the slightest interested in science, truth or integrity.

POPSCreationism, the New Virus of Education Look for new lies from Creationism/ID as it adapts to criticism and unveiling of its distortions and frauds. Make no mistake, these people at the Discovery Institute are ruthless in their quest to insinuate religion into the curriculum. They will use any method to accomplish this goal. These are not simply people gathered together to "give another perspective". They are organized to force their agenda to teach religious myths to our children. The last sentence of the clip is chilling considering High Priest Bush has used the same language. No one considers Bush to be versed in science, given his record. The dangerous part is that he does hold the power to cause real harm to education and that is a problem that will last long past his failed administration.

POPSHealthcare a Right Single payer healthcare and free education for all would alliveate these problems. Let insurance companies take care of car insurance and not tinker with medicine. We shouldn't have to face decisions about our health based on Blue Cross profit margins. All healthcare should be determined by need and not greed.

POPSPoll Shows Decline of Science Education Unfortunately the results don't look promising. Almost half of Americans, for religious reasons, don't believe in evolution. This one statistic speaks volumes about the backward state of education in this country. Superstition and myth over reality, the facts be damned. I feel this is extremely sad and a national shame. It almost convinces me that the indoctrination of children into religious beliefs over scientific thought is child abuse. Luckily the stats on younger Americans are brighter. But don't give up on seniors; I'm over 60 and have never fallen for the myth of creation. Don't assume age equals ignorance even if the numbers seem to indicate that Boomers fair poorly when it comes to smarts. Too bad!
