POPSVanished Persian army said found in desert According to Herodotus (484-425 B.C.), Cambyses, the son of Cyrus the Great, sent 50,000 soldiers from Thebes to attack the Oasis of Siwa and destroy the oracle at the Temple of Amun after the priests there refused to legitimize his claim to Egypt. After walking for seven days in the desert, the army got to an "oasis," which historians believe was El-Kharga. After they left, they were never seen again. "A wind arose from the south, strong and deadly, bringing with it vast columns of whirling sand, whi

POPSBiosphere 2 Sold to Home Developer...but read on... The University of Arizona may lease the terrarium for large-scale climate experiments. azcentral adds: "Pinal County Supervisor Lionel Ruiz, whose district includes the Biosphere 2 land, said the development will be good for the area but must be approached cautiously and be well-planned. "I don't want to see just a whole bunch of rooftops from Tucson all the way to Oracle," he said. "We want to see sustained communities and some open spaces and wildlife corridors. Like anything else, if they come in with proper plans, it'll make it a plus." I like the way this guy thinks!

POPSShould founders remain as CEO? I guess my opinion here isn't the most objective given my position with Amplify/Clipmarks, but i honestly do agree with him. As a founder of a company, the vision is core to who you are as an individual - if an investor thinks a company is worth investing in then i think they'd be best served keeping the team that got it there in charge.

POPSMystery Hill: Stonehenge of America Standing stones on the Mystery Hill site mark precise astronomical events. On certain days including solstices and equinoxes, the sun rises or sets directly over the monoliths. One standing stone points to the star Thuban, which was the North Pole star in 2000 BC. Stone walls throughout the site indicate more than 200 astronomical positions.

POPSHow does 20 years in jail sound for hacking your grades? It seems a little wrong that hacking your grades can net you the same/similar sentence as possessing child pornography (imo, the most heinous of crimes next to actually assaulting a child). Doesn't this seem a little overkill? I mean, yes, they stole a password and used it to get into a system and change their grades. But 20 year + $250,000 fine? WTF? I can only imagine how much time they'd have to serve if they actually committed a real crime. In most places they might have been kicked out of school and gotten a fine/community service. It's not like they broke into Oakridge or Livermore with the intention of stealing nuclear secrets. Granted, they haven't actually be convicted/sentenced yet, but come the fuck on... 20 years? Really?

POPS 21,000 Turn Out To Mourn Slain Officers "Never in the entire 160 years of the Oakland Police Department has there been a darker day than March 21, 2009, when (the four officers) died in the course of their efforts to remove a dangerous criminal from our streets," said U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Police came from as far as Chicago, Boston, New York and Canada to attend the service. The arena parking lot was a sea of black-and-white patrol cars and gleaming motorcycles. The crowd inside the arena was estimated at 19,000, with at least 2,000 more watching the service on jumbo screens next door at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. With officers from neighboring cities and counties patrolling the streets, every person working at the Oakland Police Department — from the highest-ranking officers to the workers who operate the cafeteria — was able to attend the funeral.
