"to end the era of oil. period. for good." a Vision and a Try
    syncopath
    by syncopath  12-4-2008
Agassi's interest in energy is new. In 2005, he joined Young Global Leaders, an invitation-only group for politicians and businesspeople under 40. Agassi's assignment was the environment Getting off oil was the key He started by looking at cutting energy usage in the home, then moved to a more tempting target: transportation there is a natural place to start in the US. The island state, Hawaii, depends on shipped-in oil; a full 14 percent of the state's annual $62 billion gross domestic product goes to oil producers, more than any state in the nation. After Israel announced its Better Place plans in January, Hawaii governor Linda Lingle asked for a meeting. It's true. Shai Agassi has only one car, no charging stations, and not a single customer—yet everyone who meets him already believes he can see the future. * a long article but a fascinating story.

Could GDrive From Google "Kill" Off The Desktop PC?
    merrie
    by merrie  1-26-2009    1
Google's rumored "GDrive," a service that would enable users to access their PCs from any Internet connection, could kill off the desktop computer, The Guardian has reported. Google refused to confirm the GDrive, but acknowledged the growing demand for cloud computing. "There's a clear direction ... away from people thinking, 'This is my PC, this is my hard drive,' to 'This is how I interact with information, this is how I interact with the web,'" said Dave Armstrong, head of product and marketing for Google Enterprise.

ZoneAlarm Pro Free for 24 Hours on November 18 6AM ~ November 19 6AM PST — gizmo.richards This one is worth grabbing even if you don't have an immediate use. To celebrate its 15th birthday CheckPoint Software is offering a 12 months subscription to the full Pro version of ZoneAlarm firewall. The offfer is for 24 hours only and starts at 6.00 A.M. HELP SAVE XP Time Is Running Out
    merrie
    by merrie  5-9-2008
According to tests by Devil Mountain Software comparing the release candidates for the last Windows XP service pack and the first Vista service pack, XP SP3 performs twice as fast as Vista SP1 on the same machine--and slower than the initial release of the Vista OS as well. From CIO.com: Wondering what's happened to momentum for Microsoft's Vista operating system in corporate America? Fact is, enterprise IT has continued to decline the Vista plate like it's an undercooked holiday casserole. Listen to what Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd said: HP never saw a "Vista moment at any time over the past year."

I think that DHH is right on the money here. Trying to support every possible situation is what got java into trouble. The motto with rails is very much do it our way or find some other piece of software. Interestingly this is also the motto of some of the new java tools that are coming out, like Maven.

This will change everything - not because it's VoIP and cool, but because Microsoft will drive it into nearly every small, medium, and large size company. Large enterprise organizations will also see the cost/performance value. This changes the VoIP integration scene for all MS shops.
