Oh, PLEASE. Is this the best you can come up with? Oh, PLEASE. Is this the best you can come up with? You have to admit, Obama sends alot of coded messages and he's a very slick speaker(at times). However, there is NOTHING patriotic about displaying a U.S. flag upside down on the DNC ticket, stylized or not. Also funny how how he had a 'stylized' U.S. flag removed from the tail of his campaign plane and NOW it's important to have it on the face of this ticket, albeit incorrectly. This is actually more an act of disrespect than anything. For a guy that's supposed to be so smart, how can he keep making so many obvious blunders? Also funny how how he had a 'stylized' U.S. flag removed from the tail of his campaign planeOh, you mean the copyrighted logo of the airline? There are plenty of patriotic renderings that have red/white stripes, and the hint of blue/stars. I have a scarf like that. That doesn't make it a flag. The only disrespect would be if it was an obvious, complete U.S. flag that was being displayed. There are alot of rules regarding the U.S. Flag 176. Respect for flag No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor. (a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. (b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise. (c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free. ... (i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown. (j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lape... And that's where Obama excels at being slick. Although he doesn't show a 'whole' U.S. flag on the ticket, he still tries to show his 'patriot colors' but uses them in the reverse manner. Like I said earlier, he is very clever at coded messages, but there are more than just his group of followers seeing them. I know the rules of flag etiquette - it's pretty prevalent here on the military base where I work. BTW, visited McCain's site lately? He's got a blue background w/stars, and a small portion of the blue/stars portion right behind him on the top logo. But the waving lines of the flag on the banner are blue/white, not red/white, so I guess that doesn't count. Oh, no! McCain's "register to vote" icon has red/white stripes, and a blue top with stars! I wonder what he's trying to say with this advertisement? (a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
Ruh roh! McCain autographs a flag for a veteran: http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/images/photo/2008/06/03/SCULL%20BEST%20OF%20EDIT/21403265.JPG http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/06/03/us/politics/0603-CAMPAIGN_14.html McCain autographs a flag for a veteran:I'm so sorry. I meant to say, "defaces." Talk about wrapping himself the flag. Yes, it does give that impression. Both candidates have felt the push from voters and the media to symbolically do it; Obama's ticket has a visual. But still a BIG difference from "disrepecting the flag by displaying it upside down." Don't they have any marketing people on the team? Do they not have one person there who might have looked at that and thought, hmmm, that looks just a wee bit like an upside down flag? There are really only two options here. They did it intentionally because they knew it would appeal to the far left part of their base. Or they are simply complete morons and have no quality control whatsoever. If voting, I vote for the latter...seems Obama/staff, whomever, simply are morons when it comes to any issue regarding our flag. I would have to agree. Although it could have been intentional on the part of the designer, I think it was just a lack of quality control after that. And I think the odds are the Obama never saw the design (or just got a glimpse). This was probably handled mostly by the DNCC, but I find it hard to believe the Obama campaign was completely in the dark. I don't know that for a fact though, and either way it still looks very bad. You have GOT to be kidding me. I can see why this was generated from website named 'Hotair'. Careful Republicans; the more you think about it the more your sensitive brains will make it true. Why anyone would think Sen. Barack Obama and his advertising department would intentionally jeopardize their hard worked history making campaign with an intentional 'slick' move is even more disturbing than the paranoid thinking Republican Right Wing nut jobs who are happy this is being hyped up. STOP being sheep people! WAKE UP!! |
